    Virtual appointments

Anyone choosing to do virtual appointments with their neurologist during covid. I have an annual appointment coming up. Only having MRI every 18 months at this point. Not due for one until April 2021. Blood work can be done locally and doctor can review the results. Very stable MS bieng treated with Tecfidera since February 2014. Just don't see the need to have an in person exam. Will run this idea with Neurologist also.
Curious how other patients are handling this.
    Thanks

    Thanks

Had my second yearly exam a few weeks ago. Chose over the phone rather than online.

I'm PP, so there wasn't much to report on my end other than s l o w decline. For his part another pitch for Botox to relieve spasticity.

15 minutes on cell saved a 25 mile round trip. Put one in the win column.

My neuro is 5 minutes from my house. It is a small office. We chose in person. Stayed in vehicle until they were ready for me. We discussed and saw how they clean. And, the filtration system was updated a couple year ago. So, I was comfortable with in person. If I was further away, I would have asked for a phone visit, which I know he has done.
God Bless and have a good day, Mary

I am stable for the most part. So I did just the phone call. They said if I wasn't stable, then they would want me to come in or have a virtual call with someone else there to hold a phone so they could see the heel/toe walk test, standing on one foot, etc...

I was able to get what I wanted out of the call.

I had a virtual appointment with my PCP in May for a small infection.

I rescheduled an MRI specialist appointment in May but ended going in person appointment in July.

My neuro didn't give us a choice. It's a busy clinic in a big city, so that is probably the reason. There are always 20 or 30 people in the waiting room, etc. I live in a studio apt so had to rig my laptop on a step stool in the hallway for part of the appointment where he watches you walk. Fun times. He's great at spending time with his patients - in our first few sessions we talked for up to 90 minutes which I took note of. But on virtual I found that it went much faster, possibly because I am no longer a new patient. I have a feeling the next appointment in December will be virtual too. On one hand it would be nice to detect changes in person. On the other hand, for people who travel especially far to see him I am sure it is great. I hope patients who are just starting to see him still get all the time they need, though.

            All the best, ~G

So far this year I have had 2 virtual appts with my neurologist and 1 with my pcp.
Both doctors are about 25 miles away, and I am a long time patient with both.
These appts were easy and worked out fine for me.
