    Strange things going on

    Hello:

At the end of may, the inside of my thighs went numb. The numbness, over the course of a few days, extended to my abdominal area and then to the back of my calves. Those areas have remained numb. Since that time, I have been having transient episodes of tingling; numbness; tingling with a cool sensations on various parts of my body. Electric shocks on my legs; electrical zapping on the bottom of my foot and on my temple. The list goes on and on.

Over the last year or so, I have began having concentration issues- especially at work.

During this time, I had 3 events were I thought that I had a uti. I now know that I am actually having urinary retention. I under went a urodynamics test this week and am waiting for those results. I was unable to urinate at all. They had to use the cath each time to remove the urine and then I fainted during part of the test.

I saw a neurologist. She is an MS specialist. She sent me for MRIs on my brain, cervical and thoracic. Cervical and thoracic were normal.

The brain MRI states that there is no demyelination observed (I know that’s good). There are however 22 lesions. 1 in the leukocortical; 11 in the periventricular; and 10 in the deep white. She also ordered a Neuroquant which I had never heard of. I don’t know how to read it at all, but the written report says that I have bilateral atrophy of the thalamus. Any idea what this would be related to?

i did a ton of blood work. All was normal except igA was high and ferritin was high.

    Any thoughts?

I have my follow up with neuro on Monday.

    Hello Txgirl150 ~

Dealing with strange symptoms can be very disconcerting, to say the least. I'm sorry that you are dealing with these symptoms, Txgirl.

At this point, I would wait for your follow-up appointment on Monday, and see what your neuro says.

In the meantime, it would be wise to document all of the questions that you have, and take it with you to your appointment.

Let us know what you find out, ok? Thanks Txgirl.

      Thank you.

I’m a little scared. Particularly about the thalamus issue. Atrophy means wasting away or shrinking, so reading that about my brain freaks me out. I am pretty sure we experience some of this due to normal aging, but I don’t know why it would mentioned on the report if it was due to normal aging.

The urinary retention also freaks me out. I am 43. It seems like I am a little young to be having this problem. The night my legs first went numb was the same night that the retention started. I thought the pain was from a uti.

I have tried to put together a timeline of events through out my life of various health issues. A lot of it probably would not apply to whatever is happening, but am trying to be thorough. I am also trying to keep an open mind to whatever the dr tells me. I like the neurologist and trust her. She is well known where I live.

I am scared and don’t really have anyone to talk to about it all.

You are more than welcome to share your concerns here with us.

I'm glad that you have a neuro that you like and trust, as that is important.

Hopefully this will help you to feel comfortable enough to ask her the questions on your list.
