    Good MRI services in Kansas?

Anyone know of a good place to get an MRI in Kansas?

We are working with Dr. Vollmer at Rocky Mountain MS Center but our insurance does not cover that area. He is letting us get MRI’s elsewhere but we would like them to be good quality. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Hi dipilot - someone from Kansas will hopefully reply to give a first hand recommendation (which is sometimes the best), but in the meantime here are a few sources:

    In Topeka - https://www.stormontvail.org/locatio...il-mri-center/

Univ of Kansas in Kansas City - http://www.kumc.edu/school-of-medici...ng-center.html

Also in Kansas city - http://www.providenceimagingkc.com/

    In Wichita - http://tallgrassdiagnostic.com/

    I wish you luck!

Hi - I don't have a specific recommendation in Kansas - since I live in - you know - New Jersey... BUT...

My hospital had 1.5T Machines and 3T machines and they only did Brains on the 3T so I guess that is the question to ask anywhere you are considering ... My doctor said an original 1.5T machine is great for a knee - not so much for a brain. There is also 2 other superior ones - a 7T MRI - no idea where to find that... and some thing my hospital just put in a "Ingenia 1.5 Wide Bore Digital MRI system from Philips Healthcare" - it was awesome - cut the time for brain/cervical spine by more than 50% - not sure where to find one of those either.

I live in Kansas. I've had MRIs in multiple locations. I've had 10 MRIs since 2002, I think.

My current MS specialist prefers I get them at KU Med center in Kansas City, KS because she is connected with them and it gives her easy access.

In the distant past, I used to sometimes get them at Wichita clinic because that is where my neuro at the time was. The clinic is now owned by Ascension, I think. It's located on Murdock. My neuro felt good about their quality.

I've also had MRIs in my community at both the local clinic and the local hospital because the location was convenient, also in the past.

KU Med center might be the best out of these options. It's a three hour drive for me, so I have my doc schedule them when I'm going for my six month appointments. My most recent MRIs were there (2013, 2018) and I have one scheduled there in May 2020.

Thanks everyone. I live in the NW corner of the state so I was hoping there would be something in Salina, Hays or Garden City that someone has used and been happy with but I kindof expected the answers so far. I will probably call all three of the locations I mentioned just to see if any of them happen to have a 3T machine but if not I’ll move in to the recommendations you guys have.

          Thanks!

I'm sure that Salina has something. It's bigger than my community and we have two options here. I just don't know anything about their machines.

MRI is readily available all over Kansas

I'm a physician in Kansas. There are many suitable MRIs all over Kansas. Salina has 3 MRIs. My studies have all been done on a 1.5T machine. If RMMSC needs something specific on a 3T machine that is also available.

The 1.5 T is most convenient for me. I would say the images of optic nerve would be better in a 3T machine but the 1.5 still picked up the edema on my nerve. It images brain and c-spine just fine.

I don't see the reason to drive a distance for MRI in NW Kansas. Hays, Colby, Garden would also likely work. I would avoid .3T magnets and open MRI as that quality is poor.
