How to walk on ice: Walk like a penguin

    • Keep your weight forward and on your front foot
    • Keep your arms out by your side to help you balance
    • Walk flat footed and take short shuffling steps
    • Wear footwear that provides traction
    • Step down, not out from curbs
    • Keeps your knees slightly bent
    • Walk on snow or grass if possible

Thanks, Mamabug! In many of these ways, I already walk like a penguin

I'd like to add investing in a pair of traction cleats for shoes or boots - they are great for ice and also snow. And don't buy the cheap kind - they don't work. I found out the hard way.

Another thought - using trekking poles with a pointed tip is also useful when walking on ice.
