    Heat & Blurry Vision

When it's hot, my eyes are a mess. Blurry, but especially blurry distance vision. The ice water after exercise works well for cooling me down and keeping me going, but it doesn't help the blurry vision.

Do any of you have tricks to improve heat-related blurry vision?

By any chance, do you have dry eyes? I take an Rx for that, but in the heat, also get blurry distance. I use other drops, like systane, to help. Not sure it will work for you, but does help me.

I don't think so. My eyes would burn or feel scratchy?

Yes. They don't feel that way after walking, but if I don't take the Rx, they get red, and feel like something in them. They just seem to need extra hydration after being overheated.

I experienced this after the eclipse. I didn’t get those special glasses they told us to get so I made a projector out if a box. I didn’t look at the sun directly but stared at the projector a long time.

Afterwards, I went inside and couldn’t see. It was terrifying. My PCP did an eye test on me and it showed I had lost significant distance vision in my left eye(the one that was looking at the box). I was scared to death! So I went to a specialist to see if the sun had damaged my eye. The relief was immense when he told me there had been no damage. He said that the eyes become inflamed. I wonder if your eyes are prone to inflammation in the heat.

What to do about it, I do not know. At least summer is temporary in most parts of the world. I would do everything possible to protect your eyes when you go outside in the bright sunlight.

            Dear MMMMS.
Sorry you are having blurry vision. My MS both acts up in the heat and affects my eyes. Blindness from Optic Neuritis was my first symptom decades ago, and I still have a large grey/fuzzy area in one eye.

Whenever I'm having a bad MS day, in addition to fatigue, spasticity, and pain, my seeing is blurry, distorted, and full of glare. I don't really have a solution. I have gone to a neuro ophthalmologist, and he says my MS brain is trying to bring order to degraded information from my optic nerves, which also lack enough myelin.

I am very careful to wear yellow sunglasses with lots of UV protection (hunting and fishing supply stores are a good source). I spend rest time in a dim room when I can. Good luck.

            Stay lifted,
