A LOT of Vitamin D is needed before it becomes toxic

From medscape.com (may need an account). I bolded the key words.
    G.

Vitamin D toxicity has been reported in multiple age groups and from multiple causes, including manufacturing errors, errors in milk fortification, incorrect dosing from liquid preparations, and intentional (although with no intent to harm) ingestion of megadoses of vitamin D supplements.[6–10] Among these causes, the most harmful appears to be sustained ingestion of megadoses (eg 50,000 IU) and incorrect dosing of supplements in children.

The medscape report was based on this

John P. Lee, DO; Michael Tansey, MD; Jennifer G. Jetton, MD; Matthew D. Krasowski, MD, PhD

I've recently been seeing a functional medicine doctor who specializes in clinical nutrition (Dr. G). He's been talking in a similar vein and wants to recommend that I start taking a dose higher than my current 10,000 mg. He's going to text me some articles about the safety. I had some initial concerns, because my MS Specialist thinks that even 10,000 mg daily is more than I should take.

I'll be interested to read what Dr. G sends me.

Vitamin D - How much is safe for you?

Human beings require an adequate amount of Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) and Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) for proper absorption of calcium, magnesium, and phosphates. There are many food items which contain Vitamin D such as fish, fish liver oil, egg yolks, and dairy products.

But the main source of Vitamin D is the one produced internally in our bodies. When our skin is exposed to the skin, the cholesterol under it gets converted to Vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol.

      Vitamin D deficiency symptoms
      • General bone deformities
      • Rickets (in children)
      • Osteoporosis

In case of excess vitamin D consumption, the following symptoms are visible:

      • Calcification and kidney damage
      • Diarrhea
      • Sore throat
      • Itchy skin
      • Irregular heartbeats

A majority of the population is deficient in vitamin D. The daily requirement of vitamin D is 2000 IU. Vitamin D2 comes from plants while D3 comes from animal products. D3 is also produced in our bodies when we expose ourselves to sunlight. Thus a balanced diet rich in fish, eggs, liver, and milk can help prevent vitamin D deficiency.

He recommends taking K2, other K vitamins and calcium citrate if I take more than 10,000 mg of D3 per day.
