    Meal Delivery Service?

Me again! Still trying to simplify my life and yet be as healthy as possible. Recently I've been looking in to meal delivery services and would LOVE your input - have you used these places? Which ones? What did/do you think? Please share your experiences!

    Clarification:
I'm not talking about Meals on Wheels or other such local places. I'm talking about online companies where you select meals (to be shipped) that are totally ready to heat and eat.

Some of these meal places deliver only fresh ingredients and seasonings that are portioned and ready for you to COOK YOURSELF at home, instructions included. No thanks. I know how to cook ... I just do not have the energy.

Some of these places are pretty high-end (seemingly?). Some are all organic. Some use a lot of local -to-them stuff. Some are for special diets ... like gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, vegan, keto, low carb, and so on. At the very least, I'm hoping to find a place that uses only organic food and is gluten free. But, share your experiences even if you did not use an organic and gf company.

    Thanks!
(and maybe this has already been brought up?!)

    Hi jjs,

Good for you for wanting to select an organic food delivery! I can't make any personal recommendations, as I still cook at home but I looked up some places that are a mail order fully prepared organic food delivery.

Don;t have much time to look over all, but a few I came up with are:

    Veestro
    Factor75
    Fresh n' Lean
    Freshly

Do a google search for these or put in "prepared organic meals delivered to your home"

Good luck in finding something just right for you

Thank you Maya I actually have found a few (but not all of what you listed!), and so far I'm really looking at Trifecta. You can order meals or 1 pound portions of single things. I watched a video review on youtube called Trifecta Nutrition Review and liked what I saw. I checked out their website too.

I'd love to know if anyone here has tried them or any other similar company?? They are all kind of pricey, but I guess sometimes we pay extra for the convenience!

Yes, they are all pricey. Trifecta does look good because you don't have to cook.

Here are some additional meal delivery services, likely not of interest to jjs because they might all require cooking. But others may be following the thread who might be interested.

          Meal Delivery Service

I would like to cast my vote for the meal delivery service called MUNCHERY. My children got it for me as a gift one Mothers Day and it was very good. All you have to do is heat it up. No cooking required. The portion size and quality of the offerings was good, too.

I recently read about two other meal delivery services: Dinnerly, and EveryPlate. I don't know much about either of them, but I think they are both considerably less expensive. $5 per meal plus shipping.instead of $10. But you have to cook.

Some of these meal delivery services are only available in certain states.

I will definitely check all of those out - thank you!

I'm the mean time, I bought glass meal prep containers off Amazon, wrote a list of freezer meal ideas, and hope to get to working on some soon. I figure surely on a "good day" I can make 4 servings of one meal, and that will be a start.

I'm going to ask my daughter to help, too. She can set aside a meal portion from whatever she makes and I can freeze it for later.

That's the plan for now. A first step.

Also, what I've been trying out for the last few weeks - I've been making a meal on Monday, and then eating it for lunch every day. The negative of course is no variety, but it's healthy, and better than a bowl of cereal ... or nothing!

I don't currently use one now but have liked Hello Fresh in the past. You can often get intro packages if you want to switch between services and save some money while you try them out.

                  Update

Well, curiosity got the better of me, so I went ahead and gave two services a try. Both were fresh delivery that you prepare at home (Sun Basket and Green Chef). Both offered a great first time order discount. I wanted to see if I could handle cooking a few small meals each week if everything was there in front of me and no thought was involved. Here is what happened.

Sun Basket lets you pick ANY of the meals offered that week, regardless of what you set preference is. "Paleo" "Vegetarian" "Low-Carb" etc. You can pick ANY meal from ANY group. Green Chef has you choose a set preference/group and they send you the three meals from that preference. Only 3 meals, and you do not have a choice. You can go in and select a different group of 3 meals, but you cannot mix and match between groups and only choose meals that look good to you regardless of the group they are in.

Everything [except for one meal] was DELICIOUS! I made a few things I never would have thought to make, and I loved them so much.

I liked that there was no waste - they send you exactly what you need and it's all used in the meal prep. Nothing to keep on hand except salt, pepper, and cooking oil.

This should not surprise me, but I felt under pressure to cook and I did not like that at all ... stress! I realized that most of the time I either make something very simple or have leftovers. I gauge what I cook by how I feel. For example, if I am not feeling well, I just make something fast. If I am feeling "ok-ish" I make something that might take a little longer. But nothing I make takes as long to prepare as what was shipped to me in the meal delivery kits.

One of the meals had olives that needed sliced - but the olives had pits in them. It was very hard for me to get out the pits first, so I ended up just slicing around the pits. My right hand go really tired. Another meal had me preparing a fresh salad in such a way that just seemed silly - it was all for looks. I wanted to be true to the recipe for an honest review, so I did it anyway and regretted the amount of time and energy it took. Again, my right hand suffered.

One of the meals had baby kale sauteed in with onions and such. I had a very hard time chewing the baby kale. It took too long to eat it and was kind of dangerous. I realized I only put kale (usually baby kale) into my smoothies or I chop it up really small and put it in soups and sauces - I do not saute it whole.

I have fresh herbs and other veg growing in my garden. Several times I used things in the meal kit that I could have gotten out of my garden. I wished I would have tried this experiment in the winter!!!

All in all, I am glad I gave them each a try, and now I know what they are like. They are expensive unless you have that first time discount, so I doubt I'll ever use them again. I really want to try the meals that come prepared already, so next I'm going to search around for a good deal on one that looks healthy to me.
