    Exercise Check-In for 05/31/18

    Six checked in this week.

    GOALS REACHED:
    Four made goals.

    GOALS MISSED:
Two missed goals. One of those might be setting new, manageable goals.

    For new Exercisers:
Feel free to join us. You set your own goals. You can keep the same goals week-to-week, or modify them. You decide if you accomplished them. Check in once a week to let us know how you did last week, and to set goals for the following week.

    Made a partial goal

Thurs - 2651 steps; Silver Sneakers
    Fri - 1051 steps
Sat - 2110 steps; Attended a church camping retreat
Sun - 2062 steps; Attended a church camping retreat
    Mon - 1121 steps
    Tues - 1216 steps
Wed - 2229 steps; Wellness Center

    Total = 12,440 steps Average = 1777 steps

I didn't make my steps goal. But, I'm going to say that I made my exercise goal even though I didn't make it in the traditional way. The camping retreat required physical effort, even though hubby did most of the work (packing and unpacking), meals were all provided, and we stayed in the retreat center (motel-like room with A/C). It was fun, but it was still just effort being there.

    Same goal next week.
    1. Average of 2,000 steps per day.
    2. Exercise at least 4 times out of 7 days. Silver Sneakers, Wellness Center, PT or something else.

Sounds like fun, Mamabug and glad you made your exercise goal!

I have been getting ready for our vacation and doing double time, so I definitely made my goal. Finished planting the garden and now it's weeding and watering time. Family will take care of everything while we're gone.

I love to come back to a clean house, so I've really upped the housework too. Even vacuumed and washed all my floors!

Rather doubt I will make goal for next week, so won't even try. Plan to relax
Hope you all keep moving throughout next week!

        Made Goals

Goals are: 5000 steps on 4 or more days week or average 5000 steps/day.

        Thu 5046
        Fri 4102
Sat 5441 (daughter came by and gave me a much needed massage )
        Sun 5653
        Mon 4377
        Tue 5351 (doctor appointment)
Wed 5519 (did NOT work media room at church)

        I took over 5K steps on 5 of 7 days and averaged 5078 steps/day.

It took some pushing myself this week - all that I had were the "have-to-dos", and so on most days I ended up having to find a reason to move. Example: feeding old bread to the chickens. Normally I remember to take it out when I get in eggs, but on days when I forgot to take it and noticed low steps, instead of waiting until the next day to do it I went ahead and took it out then.

It has just been an off week for me. Poor sleep, upper back ache and just not very motivated (raining some every day). But I will keep the same goals for next week.

Seasha - Great week ! Hope that you have a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Isn't it funny how we can accept a 'clean enough' house until we leave on vacation and then we want everything "perfectly cleaned" when we come back home ? I do the same thing .

Mamabug - Good week ! Even making only partial goals you ended up doing much more than you would have without having setting goals to work towards. Keep up the momentum.

          Made Goal!

          Hi Team!

Looks like everybody had a good week. YAY!!!!!!! FOR US!

I just did walking and NO exercises this week.

          Thurs-4428
          Fri-4254
          Sat-4024
          Sun-3043
          Mon-3028
          Tues-2104
          Weds- 3154

          Total=24.035
          Average=3433

I'm going to try and keep it in the family of 3,s. When I feel like adding an exercise I'll do it. I've been feeling like dead meat without my A/C. Tomorrow it gets installed nut my energy is 0. I keep pushing. Faith, what is the chair exercises you do on you tube? I hope you all had a safe and wonderful holiday. My dear friend Rick was up from Grand Rapids and he did all the cooking and helped me out with lifting and other stuff. It was great!

Great job all! See you next week.

            Made Goals

            Hi everyone

I made goals ~ up on feet (with rollator) 4X a day at 30 min each (standing, walking, doing light activities) + walked for 30 min on 5 days during the week + did stretches.

Had one day that was a real struggle because I didn't turn the A/C on as early as I should have. I just didn't feel too warm. But it was a very hot day, with the dew point above 70.

I still walked for the 30 min, but only managed half of the laps that I usually do. Like I have said in the past, I have to be borderline uncomfortably chilly in order to function at my best.

Susie I'm glad that you are getting your A/C tomorrow. It's miserable without A/C for those of us with heat intolerance, making it very difficult to function. Good for you that you did your steps.

msgijo You did pretty good anyways, for having an off week. Hope you have a better week ahead.

Seasha Looks like you had plenty of activities to keep you busy! You deserve some relaxation on your vacation. Hope you have a terrific time!

Mamabug Looks like you had a busy week, filled with activity to make goal!

Wishing everyone a good week with good energy.

I don't know if I remember, exactly. But, I subscribed to ChairFit With Nancy and did some of hers. Here is one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdJKK7CFPao
And I searched on YouTube for ... chair yoga for MS patients .

                Faith,

Thanks so much. I did some of them and I'm sure in time I will develop some strength. especially in the upper part. I was diagnosed secondary and I'm beginning to notice changes and I want to do as much possible to help myself. I've been having too many falls. But I will persevere.

                Thanks again.
Youv'e always bee a big help to me.

                Take care of yourself.

I'm glad you tried some. My MS specialist often recommends exercise to delay progression.

She especially recommends aerobic or cardio exercise. If you find any chair exercises that get your heart pumping, try those. I think I saw a Zumba chair exercise on YouTube once. That might be good.

She says my silver sneakers classes (even though I sit for much of then), and recumbent bike both count. She recommends 20 minutes. My classes are longer than that, but I've only been able to work up to about 15-18 minutes on the bike.

                  But, strength is important too.

                    Made partial goals.

Sorry I am so late. It's been a tough week. I did all exercises one day and partial another day. I did not do anything the other two days.

I am sick with sore throat. I am too tired today to go to the Dr.

Congratulations to all who keep trying. I am impressed with everything you all do. Keep up the good work. Karen

                      Hi Karen

Hope you recover soon from your sore throat. Good idea to rest your body so you can fight off your illness, so it doesn't worsen.

Karen, last week you said this:

So, I think you met your goal, not just a partial goal; your goal was to think about different ways that you can scale down and you've done that.

                        Sorry you aren't feeling well.

I continue to encourage you in goal-setting. Try to come up with a simple goal for next week that you'll be able to post for us on Thursday. A goal that you believe is reasonable and realistic for your current abilities. And, a goal that you can measure. Feel free to start with something that feels "too easy".

Some weeks, when I was struggling with exercising and setting goals, my goal was just to record my steps. We all have times when exercising is a struggle. Often, the motivation is what I struggle with. This group really helps me to try to push past that. But, you are also struggling with decreased ability. So, be kind to yourself as you work on realistic and measurable goal-setting.
