    Vertigo!

We don’t have many good neurologists in my area. I’ve been having chronic vertigo/dizziness for over a year now. I have to be checked for MS and Schwannoma but can’t through the MRI because of the dizziness.

Meclizine doesn’t help much. For those woth vertigo, how do you cope?
I can’t handle the prospect of living like this for the rest of my lfe. I can’t function. I’m basically an invalid. If it is MS, there’s still nothing that will help, right?

Please have your regular doctor check for inner ear infection, labiryinthritis or meniere's disease as these also can cause vertigo. Plus any infections like a UTI you don't know you have. Also you can ask for a small amount of valium to go with the meclizine as that has helped me.
Just suggestions from my experience. Good Luck : )

I have MS and schwannoma. Ms dx 1999. Schwannoma dx February.
Severe vertigo and dizziness brain fog and hearing loss since this past September.

I started acupuncture last month which has helped immensely. I'm just trying essential oils as well because the vertigo is causing anxiety. I have not had anxiety prior to the vertigo.
I also take small dose diazepam it also helps. I used it for my MRI because I am claustrophobic and found out it also helps calm the CNS.

Have you seen an ENT ? They have other tests beside MRI to dx for schwannoma.
      Best Wishes

I had pretty incapacitating dizziness during my first flare. So dizzy that, even when I got up simply to go to the bathroom, I was so dizzy that I vomited.

What helped me was physical therapy. She had some training in vestibular therapy (just one class), and had never used it before, but went back to her textbooks. She was able to help me to determine what movements triggered the dizziness and give me exercises to help to re-train my brain to tolerate those movements. Ask your neuro or your primary care physician for a physical therapist trained in vestibular physical therapy.
For me, it wasn't vertigo (feels like a room is spinning), just dizziness. And, it had only been weeks, not a year. But, our brains have the ability to be re-trained, I think. Might be worth a try.

I also like Julie's suggestions to try acupuncture (I use it for other things), and to consider essential oils (I also use those). I don't know, though, which essential oil would be good for dizziness. Perhaps Julie has a suggestion? Or you could google it?

Do you know what other tests there are to check for Schwannoma? My ENT gave me a hearing test but that was it.

ENG or Veng. It's a electronystagmophy. Or video electronystagmophy.
You basically lay on a mat with your head raised the put a monitor it's like a hat on your head and a computer records movement. They have you track a moving light with your eyes etc..

              Dizzy for 7 years

Dizziness was my first serious symptom. It got better but never went away entirely. A year later it got worse and that is when I was dx with MS. I did have serious dizziness about 10 years before that but it went away. Anyway, my doctors have tested me for everything (it seems like). I have been to several ear, nose and throat specialists and they tell me it is MS and there is nothing they can do.

I find if I limit my head movements it isn't so bad. I won't say I got used to it but it is bearable now. It is only really terrible if I am making the bed, taking a shower or walking on a busy street.

I hope you find a way to minimize it or it does get better for you.
