    Standing Transfer Assistance Ideas?

My progressive MS has reached a point of needing further assistance.

I'm still able to stand and transfer from my wheelchair to chair and back with a struggle - standing up using my walker with my wife's assistance then pivoting and flopping down.

My issue is transferring from my w/c to my rolling shower/commode chair and back, standing for the short-time needed for my wife to switch chairs is getting difficult.

Just started in-home PT for evaluation and advisement and receiving input.

Wondering how others in this situation are handling it or using some type of standing transfer aid.

A Standing Transfer Aid may be of assistance to you. Here are links to a few. Now may be the time to not just consider what you need now, but what you may need in the future. The last link is the most expensive, but probably the most useful for years to come.

    Cheers,
    Christina

Have MS since I was 22 and the past 22years of living with it has forced me to modify my entire life for many things! Ive had so many PT’s and the one I have now has taught me so much including... position my self and wheelchair at a 90degree angle when transferring. Once I started doing it that way I haven’t had any problems transferring. I’m very active and transfer many many times through out the day and it is so much easier to do now that I listened to me PT! Have them practice it with you at first. It’s automatic now for me.

        Christina,
Thanks. I will check these out.

        Tash1217,
Thanks for sharing your experience - my PT actually just watched me transfer and advised me on ease and safety.
