Sever cramp in leg verses possible blood clot. Any info appreciated

Woke up with the worse pain and burning in the muscle in the back of my left leg yesterday. It didn't last as long as some of my cramping in my legs , feet and ankles. But all day yesterday it was sore.

Today I can barely walk for the pain. My daughter was concerned about a blood clot. I see my MS doctor Friday, but not sure if I should call my primary.. Never had this happen before.

I live with the cramping but none that has acted like this. Anyone ever experience this before.

Thanks for any information you may have.

Only a Dr. can make that call and that would probably be after an ultrasound or some other test to rule out DVT.

If it were me, I wouldn't wait till Friday, I'd give my Dr. a call and see if he'll see you sooner, or ask how he wants you to handle the severe cramping, i.e. go to ER, see him sooner, etc.

Hope you find out the cause of the cramping.

I'm wondering if there is much pain with spasticity? I've been experiencing pain in my thighs when I walk, I also have bad cramping in my calves at night. I had an ultrasound vascular study, which was negative, and an MRI of my lower back which showed some arthritis and a little stenosis but nothing to cause pain apparently. So now my Neurologist has me increasing my Baclofen to see if it helps.

I hope your docs can figure out what is going on? I still don't know for sure, but my docs aree trying.

Thank you both for posting. I really appreciate it. I new it would take an ultra sound to see about a blood clot. Just thought others may have had a similar situation.

It is a little better today, but not what it should be. Think I will call my primary and get checked out.

I'm having several other ms symptoms going on too, so could be a flare starting up, but I won't wait until Friday.

        Thanks again,
        Bless you all.

I think that's a wise decision to get in touch with your GP. I know, I do this, and I know a lot of MSers that do, we sort of ignore or try to justify to ourselves the reason we're having this pain, or cramp, or what ever other symptom is bothering us. But if it's bothering you for awhile, I now
believe (and it's taken me a long time to listen to my own advice) we should at least call the GP or
seek help at an Urgent Care.

Recently I had a situation where I thought I just had a chest cold and rationalized it for a couple
days, but I finally took my own advice, and went to an Urgent Care, then my GP. Turns out I had to be hospitalized for a week to recover from the lung infection.

I don't know what makes us minimize our symptoms, but a lot of us do. Maybe it's because we have such weird stuff happening on different levels, to our bodies, we figure "this too shall pass."
I think my reticence can be traced back to the diagnosis process. I had one of those long drawn
out diagnosis and so many symptoms were dismissed, part of that still stays with me and I don't
want the Dr. to think I'm overreacting to a symptom. Whatever it is, I've got it, hopefully I can
one day say I had it because my mind won't go there.

I see your son was killed in action. I'm so sorry for your loss, and thank you for your
(and his) sacrifice for our country.

I hope there's a remedy for your cramping.

Thank you rdmc for your post and thank you for your condolences on the loss of my son. That really means a lot.

I took everyone's advice and went to my primary yesterday. Thankfully it's not a blood clot, but they believe it's from the MS. So I see my ms specialist tomorrow and we'l see what he has to say.

It also took me quite awhile to get diagnosed and I sometimes feel like I don't reveal all my symptoms as I think they will get dismissed as you said. I have gotten better about it with this doctor because he is awesome and truly listens to what I'm saying and has never ignored my symptoms.

Thank you again and I wish you the best in your MS journey.

I'm so glad you found out it wasn't a DVT. I'm sure your MS specialist will help you find something
for relief from your leg cramping.

Years ago, I found and bought a bottle of an Amish Cramp Remedy that is made from mostly apple cider vinegar, some ginger, garlic oil and i think turmeric, that is guaranteed to work within a minute of applying it to the cramp area and you can even drink it ... And it works! I make my own up now and keep it handy all around the house. Its not the most pleasant thing to drink but if you're hurting, you'll do it. Hope this helps.
