    Having so much dizziness/vertigo surges

My neuro prescribed Meclizine but this time only the 12.5 mg to take at bedtime. I have such a terrible time with dizziness. I never know when it's going to come on. Even going to the movies at the theaters now are too tough for me to endure. I said he prescribed it for me but it took me two weeks to get up the nerve to try it. He had given me that prescription stronger dose decades ago and it just made me too groggy so I didn't take it past the first pill.

I took it night before last and I'm still not right yet!! Just a while after taking it and crawling into bed I started having one of those vertigo surges I get and I was in bed! My heart started (mildly) pounding and my breathing was heavy. And the next day I couldn't really function to do anything. Obvisously this medication isn't the cure for me for the dizziness.

What are others taking to help get rid of the vertigo?

I am not going to be of much help, I also take 12.5 mg of meclizine. But my doctor prescribed it as a take as needed drug. So I do not take it very often, but when I am dealing with vertigo, nothing beats it. It has always helped out greatly ( at least me ). Best of luck to you.

      Hi Emily,

Sorry to hear you are suffering with this symptom, and Meclizine isn't helping you. Sounds like you are pretty sensitive to the med. I've taken Meclizine, and also Valium for this symptom. Once it was bad enough I was given IV steroids. There are some other medications that may be more helpful to you. Talk with your neurologist.

Vestibular rehabilitation is another option. It's a specialized form of PT that some have found helpful in treating their dizziness/ vertigo. http://my.clevelandclinic.org/health...rehabilitation.

Not a fun symptom. Good luck.
