    HFAD (Hip Flexion Assistive Device)

Neuro's office is suggesting that I look into getting one of these to help with walking (after an ortho Dr had me get an AFO which has been pretty worthless). Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with one of these devices. Thanks!

      Hi kittymom:

There have been threads about HFAD in the past. Use the search feature to look for "flexion" or "hip flexion" and they should come up in the results.

I did read the old thread, I din't know if the device had evolved over the couple of years or not. Just looking for some current info if anyone had some.

I wore the HFAD for a couple years and really found it useful until I developed osteoarthritis in the knee on the leg on which I wore it. Not sure if there was a cause effect or not.

There is a new one I'm considering and can be googled Kickstart recover to walking. It is covered by Medicare.

              Hello,
Yes, I just try one yesterday after neuro send me to the PT and it work OK.
I gain 2 seconds on the 25 feet walk. It help the weak thigh to lift the leg. And I think it will help me to walk farer before I get tire.
They also do it for both legs.
I try to buy one directly but you need to have a prescription. The cost is $250. And it is not reimbursed !
              You can see it at:
