A question for those taking alpha lipoic acid

    Do you have mercury fillings?

Can you take alpha lipoic acid if you have mercury fillings in your teeth?

I have heard it's not safe to take it if you have mercury fillings in your teeth, since mercury may be redeposited into the brain, potentially causing more problems.

Yes, I have mercury filling. Yes, I take alpha lipoic acid.

The mercury in fillings is bound inside the amalgam and isn't traveling around inside the body. Mercury that's free (such as ingested with fish) can travel to and deposit itself anywhere in the body it wants to. It doesn't need alpha lipoic acid to take it to the brain. You may have read all kinds of things about the harmful effects of mercury in fillings, but research doesn't support it.

In your other thread about fillings, posters supplied some good articles debunking the the myths about mercury fillings.

One thing that's bad for the brain is the stress from worry. If you're that concerned about your fillings, it might be worthwhile to have them removed. The placebo effect alone has a 30 to 70% chance of making you feel better. And the peace of mind you get knowing they're gone could be worth the price.
