Hi vampira and welcome, by the way! I have never have had TN, but I've read here it is so painful. You might be interested in watching this video even though it's 2 years ago.

You can also do a search here (box in upper right hand corner) for Trigeminal Nueralgia and see what other members have to say about this.

PS - I;ve moved this to our MS symtoms forum under Pain sub-forum

      Bilateral TN

TN was one of my initial symptoms of MS. I had 4 root canals in my front upper teeth when the endodontist finally said I needed to see a neurologist. The neurologist I saw was a pain specialist and without even examining me walked in and said you have something called TN. They presribed me pain medication by the ton, and anti-seizure medications. He said I should be tested for MS because in young people with TN often MS. They often do an MRI and an MRA to try to determine if there is an operable thing or not.

The pain is something that is hard to describe to those who haven't had it. It is WAY worse than child birth. Done that twice. It drives people to think about committing suicide. I personally found the anti-seizure drugs to help the best with my pain. I take a couple of different ones now, Gabapentin 900 mg 3 times per day, and Trileptal 300 mg twice per day. I also get steroid injections every month around the trigeminal nerve on both sides. That does the most help I find as I get no break through pain until about the end of the third week before my next shot is due one week later.

I hate it for anyone who gets it

      Take care,

TN is awful! It is a pain that makes you do stupid things - like going to the er twice in one day to try to get help from the pain.

I am so glad that the doctor prescribed tegretal, that was the final med that helped, added to voltaren for inflammation, baclofen, and another seizure medicine that I can't remember at the moment.

I pray that it last and hope that you are getting some relief.
