    ANNUAL MRI and MEDICARE COVERAGE

Have had annual MRI's for over the past ten years. Always needed a pre-cert for my insurance to cover it. Am now on Medicare and have a Medicare Supplemental policy. Does Medicare cover annual MRIs (brain, cervical, thoracic)? Any sort of pre-cert required? Do supplemental policies pick up the 20% not paid be Medicare?

    Medicare Supplemental

    Dear its2,
In my experience, what is covered by Medicare supplemental policies varies by the policy. I have what my BC/BS supplemental policy calls "schedule F." I chose it because it covers the difference between what Medicare pays specialists and what the specialists like to charge. It has covered all my tests and specialist visits completely.

I've never had to have a referral for anything in order for Medicare to cover it.

Take a look at the details of the supplemental policy you are paying for. Schedule F is more expensive, but for me and my needs, it has been worth it.

    Good luck.
    Stay lifted,
