    VA AND LEMTRADA

Has anyone here taken Lemtrada using just the VA as their primary healthcare? If so was it hard getting it approved since it so expensive?

I spoke to MS One to One today and they told me that there would be other financial assistance packages available should be declined.

I know how slowly the VA moves so I was trying to be proactive. My VA Neuro wrote a RX for Ampyra about 3 months ago and it still pending. Ridiculous!!
Dx'd 4/1/11. First symptoms in 2001. Avonex 4/11, Copaxone 5/12, Tecfidera 4/13 Gilenya 4/14-10/14 Currently on no DMT's, Started Aubagio 9/21/15. Back on Avonex 10/15

Lemtrada is on the VA's formulary so it can be ordered. The VA has plenty of infusion centers, but none of them are authorized to administer Lemtrada. So after your doctor writes the prescription an order for non-VA care needs to accompany it. There are seven different programs that allow for non-VA care with the most well-known one is the Choice Program.

Thanks Marco. And thanks to you I was finally approved for the "Fulltime" VA Choice Program. That's why I am now seeing a civilian MS Specialist. So I will be sure to let them know when they submit for the Lemtrada to also submit for a non VA infusion center.

My Neuro was saying it's done as an outpatient procedure so I'm assuming it will be done at the hospital near her office or at the Neuromedical Center where she practices.
