    Vermicelli with Herb Meat Sauce

    Ingredients
    12 ounces twisted vermicelli
    1 pound ground beef
    1 Tablespoon shortening
    16-ounce can tomatoes
    8-ounce can tomato sauce
    1/4 teaspoon sugar
    1/4 teaspoon oregano
    1 teaspoon seasoned salt
    1/4 teaspoon basil
    1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

    Directions
    1 In large skillet, crumble and lightly brown ground beef in hot shortening.
    2 Reduce temperature to simmer.
    3 Stir in tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, and all seasonings.
    4 Meanwhile, cook vermicelli according to package directions.
    5 Serve with meat sauce.

    MAKES 4 to 6 servings
