    Latvian Crockpot Kraut

    Ingredients
    1 27-ounce can sauerkraut, drained
    1 small cabbage, thinly sliced
    1 medium onion, diced
    2 apples, peeled and diced
    1-1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds
    2 Tablespoons sugar
    3 Tablespoons brown sugar
    3 Tablespoons bacon drippings

    Directions
    1 In a slow cooker {crockpot}, layer drained kraut with sliced cabbage, onion, and apples.
    2 Sprinkle each layer with caraway seeds and sugars.
    3 Pour bacon drippings over top.
    4 Cover slow cooker and cook on low or 8 to 10 hours {on high for 3 hours}.
    5 Stir.
    6 Goes well with roast pork and potatoes.

    MAKES 10 to 12 servings
