New to MS World, but not to ms.

Hi! My name is Lu, short for Lutricia. I was diagnosed with MS about 3 1/2 years ago. I am married with 2 grown children, a daughter and a son and 4 grandchildren, two girls and 2 boys. I love to knit, sew, walk, workout and be with my family. Lately have been a slacker and my walking has slowed considerably. Its just that I wake in the mornings and feel like I have been hit by a Mack truck. Once I get moving the pain goes away. Hate this!! I am normally a very active person, but have noticed a considerable slow down. I am really confused because I hear people discuss the flares they have and steroids and treatments to combat the flareup, but I don't seem to have flare UPS, at lease none that I am aware of, but I do have increasing amounts of symptoms? I thought I was lucky but I am not so sure!!

    Hi Lutricia,

Welcome to MSWorld! But sorry for the reason why. It sounds like you have a wonderful family.

Sorry to hear about your walking. Have you ever tried Ampyra? https://ampyra.com/ Are you taking any of the Disease Modifying Therapies? http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Tre...MS/Medications

Here are a few links from the NMSS that describe the different forms of MS and define an MS exacerbation and treatment.

    Hope this helps.

      welcome lu!

glad you are here at MSW! wonderful place for advice, support and especially people who understand what you're going through!

MS is called the MonSter frequently on this site for good reasons.
it eats up so much of what we love about life. when you're relapsing remitting, your symptoms go up and down.
i'm down right now, but a lot is going on. it IS so frustrating to be used to taking walks and then have to adust to barely being able to walk when you get up.

hang in there! be sure and keep up with your symptoms, it'll help a dr. know what to do for you.

i'll be praying that you get some help soon and be able to be active.

how wonderful to have 4 grandchildren to enjoy!!!
I have just the one and she's the joy of my life!

try to think positively, that helps.
personally I've been stuck in a w/c for 2 yrs., then was able to walk with a cane for 3 or so years after that. once was paralyzed on one side, w/c bound again, but thank God just for about 4 mos. before I could walk again.

so when things seem dismal, don't give up! often with treatment, physical therapy and lots of determination, you can get back to a better place.

please keep us updated with how you're doing! we care about you!

God bless you with better heath!

        Still Walking!

Hi Kimba. I am presently on Copaxone 40 mgs 3 times a week. Don't get me wrong, I am still able to walk, and I try to remember to thank God for that daily. I just don't seem to walk as much and there are days I seem to be slower. I called the doctor yesterday and he is starting me on something for pain. I have pain and stiffness in the mornings that usually subsides as the day goes on. I have not tried to ampyra yet, but will be checking it out. I know there are some drugs that you have to be at a certain point in you MS before they will consider you for the drug.

Thank you so much for responding.

Good morning poohb3ar. Thank you for responding. I am very thankful for still being able to walk and know that can change with this unpredictable Monster of a disease! I finally took the step and called the doctor. He is starting me on a pain med to help me get through the pain I experience in the mornings. He has also requested I make an eye appt. I go through short periods where my vision is distorted! When I place a hand over one of my eyes the distortion is gone and same with the other eye. I guess that might signal a misfiring?! That's what the nurse said anyway. Anyway, I intend on focusing on here and now and making the most out of every day and being happy! I have much to be thankful for. God has been good to me! He has blessed me with a good life and a wonderful family!!! I look forward to meeting with people on this site and talking
with you! Hope you have a wonderful day.
