    WHAT A GREAT DOCTORS VISIT!

Well today I had my very first appointment with my VA PCP. You don't have just one doctor you have a team. My team consists of two RN's, each responsible for different things and another team member that I didn't meet but his responsibility I'd to make sure you can contact your team member through their "VA PATIENT" which is web based. It is your own private and secure way of contacting your team and faster that the phone.
Once I told the doctor I had MS she immediately ordered a MRI and is referring me to a MS Specialist with tha VA located in New Orleans. Since it is located some 90 miles from where I live I will be paid for mileage on my vehicle.
The doctor also told me of another VA clinic the provides canes tips and handles free of charge. I was totally unaware of that. It took me a long time to earn my benefits but they are starting to payoff.

Did they give you a card to logon to Myhealth.va.gov? The site is secure and you can E-mail your doctor or nurses to order refills on scripts and they also lost all your medical records so can have quick and easy access to all your medical history. It's a really an impressive site.

If they didn't give you access to that I would be sure to wake them about it.

No I never got a card to log in, however I have had access to my health E-vet for years.

I can email my dr's but rarely get a reply and if i do its one like like,

I'll forward this to Dr Dolittle.

Or something equally as simple and then i'll not hear anything else.

I try to stay positive about it all but its just disheartening some times. I go into what i feel may be a flair and I cant get a hold of anyone via phone or email. I send it email mainly do its documented because it may be 6 - 9 months before i even see another Dr.

I would have thought that once i was diagnosed with MS, I would have had someone to call and help explain the basic things. You know like,

        1) what is a flare?
        2) what is considered a new or worsening symptom?
        3) what to do when you feel you are having a flare?

        Etc Etc Etc

I know the answer to those questions now, but that's by being proactive in my own treatment. Being my own best advocate and resource by educating my self. Sites like MS world, National MS Society and even WebMD have Been valuable resources in self education.

I watch my Dr's like a hawk on myhealthevet seeing what they write looking at my MRI reports and labs.

I just always felt the should be someone to help.

Thanks however, maybe I just need to move back to baton rouge.

          Great news WayDownS.....

I see myVA MS specialist at what the VA calls MSCOE or MS center of excellence. All they do is check a couple minor things & Rx my Copaxone. Other than printed and outs there is N support. My MS doc once asked if I was OK during a nasty M hug right there in the exam room and another time how are you getting around at home. (Did NOTHNG)

I have to BEG for everything, I would be LOST w/o Medicare and a good no-VA Family doc. Even after winning service connection for my MS
