Specialist Appointment - what to expect

I was diagnosed by my neuro about 6 weeks ago. At that time I had MRI's of brain and spine. 2 weeks ago I also had my Evoked Potentials tests. My neuro is a wonderful kind caring man, who started me on Copaxone (I am beginning my 4th week). However, he only sees about 90 patients a year with MS, while his co-doctor sees over 200 patients a year and MS is her specialty. I have an appointment with her next week. Is there anything special I should expect from this appointment? My neuro told me that he felt due to the results of my MRI, that I did not need to have a spinal tap for confirmation. I agree as I would prefer to avoid anything invasive if I don't have to have it. Do you think she will suggest that? Can I refuse to have one? I am just curious as to what else to expect. Thank you very much for your help

    Hi Boymom~

Here is video put out by the NMSS on choosing an MS Dr. and how to prepare for an appt. It's 7 min long, but worth listening too- http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Pro...by=3&order=asc

Another one here is on preparing for a visit and having a checklist on hand for important information. http://ms.about.com/od/livingwellwit...eurologist.htm

I have always had someone goes with me to take notes. I can only remember about half of what my neuro says and it's nice to be able to refer back to those notes later on.

As far as the spinal tap - if your Dr says it's not necessary, then it isn't, imo. If the new neuro suggests it, you have every right to say no.

I hope this helps and fill us in on how the appt goes!
    Good luck
