    I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EYES

I received my letter from the VA today, less than one week from seeing the exam doctor, and they low balled me at 10% but at least I got SC. I'm not sure when I'll receive my first check, they did breakdown what I will be receiving and at what days the back pay will be started and how much. They also listed the cost of living increases.

The letter went on to list why they could not include each dependent.

Though it's not what I was hoping for at least I have my foot in the door and can start filing for appeals. I had no idea it would take less that one week to get an answer. I was pretty fired up when I opened that letter.

Any suggestions on how to move forward with an appeal would be greatly appreciated!!! I'm still in shock!

Getting SC is the hardest. So good job!

You got 10%. That was not for MS, because that has a mandatory minimum of 30%.

Do you mind me asking what the condition is...please don't feel obligated to say, but I could give you a better answer if I knew.

I blew all the ligaments out of my right ankle. As if MS pain wasn't enough the pain in my ankle is terrible.

I'm going through my medical records to see if I can link anything to MS. However, I don't know if that's a good idea since I just got this. Any thoughts?

Wow. As a former runner, I can say that blowing out an ankle is pretty serious. And painful. I blew my knee...much easier to fix though painful in fact it was not included in my disability because I had 100% recovery. I can get a new knee...not a new brain.

I am hoping you have a good specialist. Ankle ligament injuries tend to become reinjured over and over. Not to mention the ligaments usually end up like overused elastic.

Questions that I would get documented by a civilian doctor for an increase for the appeal would be: 1) What is the likelihood of surgery fixing the problem (probably not good), 2) Pain Management, 3) Make sure the doc documents the injury is NOT in anyway related to MS, 4) Are you wearing assistive devices, 5) Are you having unrelated MS falls from your ankle turning 6) Are you missing work, and 7) Affect on social life.

Ask yourself too how did you blow out your ankle? Were you falling alot previously or was it a one time thing? If you were falling alot and you have documentation, it could have been because of MS. A few years after my diagnosis, I would start unexpectedly fall while running.

Talking about MS, look back at your service medical records and look for things like 1) Any Vestibular Disorders...Labyrinthitis a big one that can signal the start of MS, or unexplained dizziness, 2) Any significant eye sight issues, 3) Unexplained falling not caused by the ankle, 4) Urinary issues, 5) Numb Body Parts, 6) Migraines

Finally ask your MS Specialist how long they think you have had MS.

The biggest problem I see is the VA will try to blame ankle issues on MS and say your MS was aquired outside the time limit.

You have a lot of work...dont envy you.
