    Heat Sensitivity

    Hi all,

I hope everyone is doing well today. I wanted to ask if anyone's ever found a (possibly neurological?) cause for heat sensitivity that isn't MS related? I tried researching it myself, but I haven't come up with anything definitive.

I ask because when I saw my retina specialist last week (and was telling him all my neuro history/symptoms/tests I've had done sine I last saw this specialist). He wasn't thrilled that I've had any of these problems but seemed particularly concerned with my having constant double vision for over a year now.

I gave him the run down of my testing/symptoms etc and he said his biggest thing besides getting the double vision figured out (I go to an optometrist as a starting point in a month), he wanted me to be mindful of if my symptoms were worse with heat. I said how the spring/summer were brutal and absolutely when the symptoms were the worst.

I also have heat sensitivity with water. Some days it's not as bad but now when I put my hand in anything above lukewarm water I get instant pins and needles or it just goes numb. I've always enjoyed extremely hot water so this is odd to me.

    Thanks!

    Hello !

All demyelinating diseaes can cause heat sensitivity with MS being the most common. , That happens because demyelinated axons transmit impulses worse in higher temperatures , its called uhthoff's phenomenon.

Before my ON attack resolved I suffered worsening right eye vision when having a hot bath or playing sports.

Hope it's not MS or something like that your are dealing with , best of luck

      Hi CoffeeQueen,

Has Myasthenia Gravis been considered and tested for? Heat can be a trigger for symptoms and MG can cause double vision.

Thanks noor_ar and Snoopy. I do believe Myasthenia Gravis was on the big list of testing we did in the first visit, so he doesn't think that's on the table though I can see where the similarities lie.

I too hope it isn't MS or another demyelinating disease. It took a while for me to be okay with the idea that I might not know what is going on for a while, but now I just try and take advantage of good days and rest up as much as I can on bad ones.
