Lipoic Acid as a Treatment for Acute Optic Neuritis

I was just perusing the government's clinical trials website under Alpha Lipoic Acid, which is currently in trials for secondary progressive MS and came across this...

Lipoic Acid as a Treatment for Acute Optic Neuritis

    http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/N...C+ACID&rank=30

The purpose of this study is to determine if oral lipoic acid can safely help relieve permanent optic nerve injury in patients diagnosed with acute optic neuritis. It will also explore how the body absorbs and breaks down the study drug, and what effects it has on the immune system.

(Alpha) Lipoic Acid is a cheap supplement I've been taking now for about six years for several reasons.

Maybe this is worth a try for those here with persistent optic neuritis.

Thanks Knuckle - I just read the link and noticed this:
    "Study Start Date: January 2011
Estimated Study Completion Date: October 2013
Estimated Primary Completion Date: October 2013 (Final data collection date for primary outcome measure)"

It's been a year. Have you found any newer data beyond this phase I trial? I'm having trouble finding anything.
