    question concerning paleo diet

Hi, I have done some reading about the paleo diet and i just want to know if it works, do you lose weight on it and how does it affect my MS?

    #2
    Everyone is different!

I have lost over 50 pounds, started sugar blocking, gluten free, then paleoish, then vegetarian, then vegan, then oil & gluten free vegan.

It is a personal journey and how your body reacts will determine your path.
People ask me if I am nuts when they find out where I have ended up.
I say I feel better than I have in many years and have also lost some weight,so I have no trouble sticking with my nutritional plan.
I try to have a cupcake or something at a summer party and I pay the price that night or the next day with legs cramps and fatigue, but again, that is just me everyone will suggest something different.

If you have read about the Swank diet, the paleo is pretty similar, you just need to lay off the red meat and the oils.
I believe the key to all of these diets is the removal of processed foods and returning to the fruits of the land (whether they be plant or animal) in the whole state.
You want chips? make them yourself.
You want dip? make it yourself.
You want hamburger? Don't, there is nasties in those grinders no matter how clean they try, have a steak instead.
You want a brownie? Make it yourself, and from scratch, no boxes, they put awful junk in those boxes.

Good luck, and I hope you find something that works for you.
PM me if you want a mentor or sounding board in starting paleo (or vegetarian, vegan, whole foods as I have been there too.) who will be willing to answer questions and offer encouragement.

      Dip recipe

      Hi there~

Would you be will to share a dip recipe? Where do you find the best recipes? I would appreciate anything because I'm just starting slowly with diet.

      Thanks!

I just pounded this one out because the one thing I miss as a non meat eater is chicken wing dip.

        Chicken Wingless Dip (by Bradly)
1 c. raw cashews, soaked for a couple hours drained and processed until really fine.
1/4 c. nutritional yeast (the cheese flavor)
1/4 c. franks wing sauce (i added some more because it wasn't spicy enough, but i went too far )
        1 TB garlic powder
1 c. white beans cooked to soft, throw in processor with nut mix and process until smooth
Chop up two or three branches of cauliflower, and slice the stalk to make some shreds of "chicken", add to mix and pulse a couple times.
        Remove bowl from processor
Put in dish and bake to warm it up, I am thinking of some cheddar veese to sprinkle on top next time

You could probably leave the cauliflower out of the dip, it didnt really end up doing what I thought, but it did change it from being a smooth goop.

Use the rest of the cauliflower to snack on it, or some Mary's Gone Crackers

Another simple one is a quick guac.
smash an avocado, some lime juice, garlic, cilantro if you have it, jalepeno or chili flakes if jalepenos not around.

I just want to note that while Swank's diet shares some things in common with other diets, including the Paleo diet in the sense that it favors non-processed foods, the diets are not similar. The following paleo item would never be allowed under swank:

          http://thepaleodiet.com/rosemary-tomato-pork-ribs/

Swank is primarily a low saturated fat diet - no butter, bacon, only non-fat dairy, etc. Soy is perfectly fine, as is wheat, peanuts, flax-seed oil.

If anyone is interested in diet, Swank's has the longest research. You can find it here:

Wow, so his really contradicts the Wahls protocol, eh? I haven't looked into changing my diet too much because my MS is fairly mild (so I'm not sure if I'd even notice differences) but since the Wahls seems compatible with info for my other condition, PCOS--which calls for a high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet--I was thinking about trying it. I wish the Wahls clinical trials were done so there was more data to go by!

              Thanks!

That was sooo nice of you Nosrepodnar for the recipes. I'm going to make that fast guacamole next week when my sister and the hubster come to visit me. I have to admit to you I'm doing things in steps because I sometimes I get overwhelmed but I have TOTALLY cut out sugar for almost 3 weeks and I can tell in my legs and it's NOT ALL IN MY HEAD!! I'm still having a cup or 2 of coffee which eventually I'm cutting out but with this exhaustion I'm still leaning on it. Again....thanks so much. I'm kind of enjoying the challenge of the food part. I'm part Italian/Jewish and have always LOVED to cooked. So I'm up for this.

Cooking is a family event at our house.
People complain about the time is takes to cook everything from scratch and clean up, it is only a chore if you make it a chore.

I gave up coffee for nearly 2 years.
Didn't help with the MS and didn't help with the psoriasis.
I am back on since it is the only beverage I drink besides water.
I don't drink it as heavily as I used to.

                Food is powerful!
You can barely make out where the plaque psoriasis on my knees used to be, mainly because of the lack of hair.
I am taking 1 pill twice a day now(Tecfidera) and that is it, eliminated 6 different pills and a drawer full of psoriasis creams just by changing my diet.
