    Pars Planitis?

I developed a large floater in my eye along with some light flashes on Wednesday. I went to an ophthmalogist, who sent me to a retinal specialist. He says I have pars planitis and have to go see a specialist in Chicago.
Does anyone have this?? I have never heard of it, but it looks like it is MS related. I don't like the description of the treatments on websites I have seen. Why can't I just have something normal like ON?

Hi: Pars Planitis is a case of uveitis, or inflammation of the middle portion of the eye fluid. It is seen in many cases of immunological diseases, MS being one of those.

Are they treating yours with surgery or with shots of steroids into the eye?

No matter, I hope they treat it quickly so that you do not loose any sight. Let us know how it goes, OK?

I will be thinking about you.

Thanks for your reply, Lisa. I was just diagnosed today and referred to a specialist. I will find out Tuesday when I can get an appt. (probably Wednesday or Thursday). I am scared to death at the thought of shots in my eye! I don't know how this doctor will treat it, I am currently on Tecfidera, so I don't know if that will make a difference. I have constant flashing still when it is dark, so I am afraid that there is also a retinal tear that they were unable to see. I guess I will find it all out this next week!

I had pars planitis with ON concurrently in 2007. It turns out it was the onset of my MS, although it was misdiagnosed at the time.

I'm not sure how I can help, but I'm all for seeing the specialist if you can.

Well, i see the specialist this Thursday and I am a little freaked out still. The good news is that my vision seems better now that the floater has lightened up and moved into my peripheral vision instead of the middle, and the flashes only occur at night and then, only when I turn my head quickly to the left. My vision no longer seems to be decreasing in that eye, either it's getting better or I am adjusting to it as normal. Still hoping that like ON, this is more like a flare symptom that will eventually resolve!

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I've had uveitis for the past two years.

Just a couple of points I want to make. Make sure that you are completely comfortably with your eye specialist. Ask many, many questions and never allow a procedure that doesn't make sense to you.

As far as getting steroid shots in your eye (if it comes to that), try not to stress about it too much. I figured that I would have an extremely rough time with that, but it really isn't that bad. They do numb your eye so that you really don't feel the needle.

Unfortunately, mine wasn't resolved by the numerous injections, so they finally decided to do a vitrectomy. It's been five days and already I'm noticing a marked improvement.

So please don't lose hope and if you have any questions you'd like to ask me directly, please do so.

I wish you the best of luck hon!

Well, the specialist has confirmed the pars planitis and says that it is because of the MS. She also said this will not resolve like ON, but will be with me long term. She asked me to follow up in a month to see how it is progressing. No treatment so far. Apparently unless this proves to be aggressive, the side effects of treatment can be worse than the disease itself? I have a large, hazy spot in my left eye. It is fairly fixed, but seem to flip in and out of the same spot sometimes. It's strange because it reminds me of a contact lens that has shifted off center. Almost greasy looking. I see her again on the 9th. I am afraid this spot will never go away.
