    Using MS as an excuse

We all now the troubles and difficulties of living with MS.

Unfortunately, certain members of my family habitually use the fact that I have MS as an opening or an excuse to call me. They call to check on me or tell me they saw a TV segment about someone with MS -- but their true motives are to ask for a favor or loan.

Example from a "concerned" cousin: "You know it is not good for you to be at home all the time. You need to get out of the house. I am flying in tomorrow afternoon, maybe you should pick me up from the airport."

This is really beginning to irk me. I know that I have MS and don't want to be reminded of it, especially from people who have ulterior motives.

    OK, so ends my rant.

That is awful. The nerve of some people.

      That is pretty nervy!

I'd be tempted to say "Cousin, I'd love to pick you up at the airport, but sorry, I'm going out to lunch/dinner/the movies with some friends at that time. Maybe you can get a taxi to your hotel?"
