    When and what doc?

I woke up this morning feeling like I was punched in my eye. Also can tell that red looks a little washed out if I am not covering my painful eye. How long do I wait before contacting a Dr. to see if this is a big deal? And do I contact a neuro, primary care, or optometrist? I don't have a lot of funds in my HSA, so I don't want to jump all over this unless necessary, but I am also paranoid about vision loss and ON.

If you are diagnosed already, you can contact your neurologist. If not, you may want to see an ophthalmologist. They are better equipped to do something about it if it is indeed ON, meaning they can prescribe IV steroids for you if you need them.

Good luck and let us know how it goes, OK?

An optometrist is not a medical doctor; you need an ophthalmologist. Since it sounds like you don't have one, I'd suggest calling your neuro and starting there. I think everyone with MS should have an ophthalmologist that you trust, so maybe once the crisis is over finding one you like is a good idea.

FWIW, my neuros and ophthalmologists have always told me that it is the neurologist, not the ophthalmologist, who prescribes the steroids. However, the neuro is clearly not an eye specialist, so Ive always been advised to call both and let them figure out just what is going on.

I hope this resolves quickly, whatever it is!
