    How long...

My doctor faxed in the starter forms to Biogen last week. For those of you who have medication already, how long did it take for you to get it once the ball got rolling? I called Biogen yesterday and they said my information had been sent to the specialty pharmacy, but they didn't give me any other information. I am very anxious to get started....

I also called Biogen yesterday. They had my forms and also said they had forwarded them on to the specialist pharmacy. Just got a call (message) from the pharmacy, they're reviewing my information and will call when they have everything they need to schedule a convenient delivery. It has only been 1 week from my dr. appt and getting the prescription! The process seems to be happening fairly quickly!

In the meantime, I'm still taking the Copaxone because I didn't want to go off if this process was going to take a long time. My dr. recommends a 3-week washout (her general policy when switching DMDs), tecfidera says washout not necessary. I really don't want to do washout... I think if delivery happens sooner than later, I might just take a week off & then start pills.
    Symptoms 8/09. Dx 1/10. Avonex 2/10 - 1/11. Copaxone 2/11 to 5/13. Tecfidera 5/13 to 2/15. Gilenya 12/15 to current.

I hope that it will move quickly for me. I have recently been diagnosed and awaiting the approval and release of tecfidera to make it my first DMD. I am hopeful that it will be effective and I will be able to tolerate it and skip out on all the injectable therapy.

        BCBS has the ball

Neuro finally got my form for tecfidera to my pharmacy and my pharmacy submitted to Blue Cross Blue Shields where the claim has not yet been approved.

So far this has been a 3 week process.

I am still waiting as well. My paperwork was sent last Tuesday. Got a call from Caremark Friday and again today telling me that BCBS is requiring preautherization so its back to my doc's office...Iwent off my Copaxson on April 11th. My neuro said that the rep from Biogen said to wait 4 to 8 weeks before starting Tec. Originally my doc said 2 weeks. And the pharmacist with Medco said that Copaxson half life is 2 weeks. Yeah its all about clear as mud I am hopful that it will all be worked out soon. Keep ya posted...

It took three weeks from start to finish for me. My paperwork was filed 4/4. My Tecfidera came today.

It took 11 days for me from the time my doc faxed the form out to the day it arrived at my front door. Way faster than I had anticipated!

                Takes some time

Started the paper work 4/9, got the starter pack 4/19. My Pharmacy ran out and had to defer to another group for me so that worked out.
                Diagnosed 9/2010, copaxone 10/10, avonex 10/12

Yay! Let us know when you start taking it; if you have any side effects?!? Good luck.

So far, so good (knock wood). I've taken 3 doses so far and the worst I felt was a little hot this morning (which could have been caused by the warmer weather here), and I did get really thirsty at one point during the day. I took my doses in the morning and the evening.

I wouldn't recommend taking a dose with any acidic drinks (lesson learned this morning when I had a glass of OJ to wash it down.) I also would be careful if you have any acidic drinks after you take a dose. I had a glass of wine last night maybe an hour after I took my evening dose and the hearburn/acid reflux (not the norm for me) kept me up for awhile. Not terrible just annoying.

                        waiting

I filled out paper work two weeks ago Weds. I have not heard anything from anyone. Not sure who to call. I did call the nurse at the Dr's office, of course today is Friday so I will not have the question that I left on the answering machine heard until Monday. I just need to be patient and wait.

                          1 month wash-out

Even though everyone says you don't have to do a wash out I think most if not all neuros are following a 1 month wash out period unless tecfidera is your first med.
