            Mis-information above.

Pennslyvania has not passed the bill for mmj yet. That information was copied from a site and clicking on each state, should have given the law for the state.

Double-checked the other links and all the remainder ARE valid.

            http://norml.org/states

This is a valid link to states and current laws (I should have used this one). Sorry for the confusion. I know to check sources, when I am unable to post the link...I promise to do better in the future! fed

              Great Info

I have been using MMJ for degenerative disc diease for the past 3 years in CO. I was dx in 8/2012 with MS, but was really feeling symptoms since well before that. Using MMJ has help to relieve the stress in which tends to trigger my symptoms. It has been a value to me to stay off of harder perscriptions. I am Also currently taking Copaxone. The 2 seemed to not counter each other.

For the most part I eat or smoke in the evening after dinner to help settle down. My mind tends to keep running all day wtihout rest and this leads to myself just zoning out and staring at the wall. SO IT HELPS ME!
Leave the Heat and Stress for the birds!

                MMJ

I'm not sure why the previous MMJ thread was closed. Though I was injecting Copaxone for 12 years, and just this week switched to Tecfidera, I'm also a regular user of medical marijuana to relieve MS pain and discomfort, and just generally feel better.

I'm blessed to live in Maine, where excellent strains are grown and regulated for a number of medical effects. It's The Way Life Should Be, as the state slogan says! I use Blueberry to unwind and quiet my leg and foot pain, Northern Lights when I need to be productive and creative. I don't smoke, I cape. I also use a tincture in the daytimes.

Marijuana has been repressed since the 1930s, but there is much talk about its medical effectiveness for MS, cancer, and much more. It's definitely a part of my MS World, and should probably be for everyone!

I too am wondering why a moderator closed the mmj thread. I thought the thread was very informative and provided some real world experiences of MS patients using a medicine that is legal in many states now.

I have a relative that gets real bad calcium growths on his bones and has a bad back as a result of the calcium deposits. He was on some really heavy meds for a while but is doing much much better using mmj to control pain.

Cannabis Extract Eases Muscle Stiffness Typical of Multiple Sclerosis, Study Suggests:
                    http://http://www.sciencedaily.com/r...1009112423.htm
Oct. 9, 2012 — Cannabis seems to ease the painful muscle stiffness typical of multiple sclerosis (MS), indicate phase III trial results, published in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.

Up to 90 per cent of MS patients endure painful muscle stiffness at some point during the course of their disease, which reduces their mobility and interferes with daily routine activities and sleep quality. But current treatments often fail to resolve symptoms fully, and can be harmful, as a result of which many MS patients have experimented with alternative therapies, including cannabis.

Adult MS patients with stable disease, from 22 different specialist centres across the UK, were either randomly assigned to cannabis extract (tetrahydrocannabinol) daily (144) or a dummy pill (placebo) (135) for a period of 12 weeks.

The treatments were given in gradually increasing doses from 2.5 mg up to a maximum of 25 mg for two weeks, followed by maintenance doses for the remaining 10 weeks. The aim was to see if cannabis extract alleviated or improved muscle stiffness, associated pain, muscle spasms, and sleep quality, using a validated 11 point rating scale.

After the first two weeks of treatment, 87 per cent of those taking the placebo were on the maximum daily dose compared with just under half of those (47%) taking the cannabis extract.

After 12 weeks, one in four patients treated with cannabis extract was taking the maximum daily dose compared with over two thirds (69.4%) of those taking the placebo.

At the end of the study period, the rate of relief from muscle stiffness was twice as high among those given the cannabis extract as those given the placebo. Muscle stiffness was alleviated in just under 30 per cent of those given cannabis compared with just under 16 per cent of those treated with the placebo.

This difference was evident after 4 and 8 weeks, and also extended to pain, muscle spasms and sleep quality, at all time points, the results showed.

The differences were most noticeable among patients not already using antispasmodic treatment, among whom almost 40 per cent of those taking the cannabis extract gained relief compared with just over 16 per cent of those taking placebo.

The rate of side effects was higher among those taking the cannabis extract and highest during the first two weeks of treatment. Nervous system disorders and gut problems were the most commonly reported side effects, but none was severe.

The authors conclude that the results of their trial indicate that cannabis extract could be a useful treatment for the muscle problems typical of MS, and could provide effective pain relief, particularly for those in considerable pain.

The above linkhttp://http://www.sciencedaily.com/r...1009112423.htm, has other articles attached: Pro and Con of the use of MMJ and MS. Well worth a read, if nothing else to do and interested.

the following a a quick You Tube link on a recent study of M.S. and the "extract" (often called RSO) of cannabis.

For those of you wondering about the other thread, it was closed due to it becoming more like 'email' content between two people; sorry, pnowsitall... THIS thread spun off of that one. Hopefully, we'll avoid that here!

Please continue to share your experience and concerns. fed

                      @ Fed Up

I am in Pennsylvania as you know but from what I read on that website is that I can get the MMJ card. Is that true?

My next question is if I can get my Dr. to prescribe me the MMJ card can I go to a legal dispensary state and buy MMJ?

Thanks for all your useful info!

@durgastiger; I placed a link, in my profile, to the site with the pending legislation and the details. And, another link (I'll put it in now), that tells what the laws are.

It seems, the Governor of Pennsylvania, is the Obstacle...

I believe you should ask your M.D. for a "recommendation," in writing. And go to a state nearby, to get your meds, legally. Many states will honor, patients from other states.

Not sure what, he should write on the 'rec,' though.

Florida is a non-mmj state. Not long ago, a patient with ALS and her husband were arrested for growing and possessing mmj. The Feds, dropped the charges. I think, this is a precedent.

Some states allow other state's patients, to buy, keep and use mmj, per their physician's recommendations.

As of last week, Los Angeles, CA: Voters approved 135 total, store fronts for MMJ. More than 1,000, will be closing, when the new D.A. takes his seat. fed

This article above: Was certain to name "Extract" of Cannabis. Commonly referred to as: Extract of Cannabis, Hemp Oil, Rick Simpson Oil and many other names.

Essentially, it is the "oil" or "resins" of the cannabis plant. Like Olive Oil.

This does not come from inhaling (smoking) the plant. And this is what irritates me: The U.S. Gov't, has the patents on the "medicinal" values of the plant. go figure, anti-pot Gov't, Knows they are holding the key to the 'kingdom.' If you think the Gov't wouldn't keep a medication, that would "help," think again.

On the one hand, United States federal government officials have consistently denied that marijuana has any medical benefits. On the other, the government actually holds patents for the medical use of the plant.
Just check out US Patent 6630507 titled "Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants" which is assigned to The United States of America, as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services.
The patent claims that "Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example
