Pretty similar to what you described, too. Years later, I can understand his emotions--who wouldn't panic a bit at the thought of life with a cripple?--but I still loathe his spineless behavior. If he couldn't handle it, he still didn't need to make it 100x more painful.
Here's what I can tell you: What he put you through was so demoralizing, you might be surprised to realize you're happier with him out of your life. I was. Sure, it's scary to be on your own with an uncertain future, health-wise. But you will not feel as miserable as you did when you were being treated like dirt. Other people love you, so enjoy being with them. You don't need to hang around with somebody who makes you feel depressed.
