    Translation Help

Hello. I am in the "before the diagnosis phase" and need help understanding an MRI report the doctor gave me:

"FINDINGS--There are at least four small, high signal foci in the white matter of both cerebral hemispheres on the axial FLAIR sequence. However, these are all oriented along the same coronal plane. On the post contrast sequences, it is also evident that this is sharply demarcated artifact of uncertain etiology oriented along the same coronal plane. The brain appears normal otherwise with no mass lesion or hemorrhage."

Are the high signal foci a type of lesion?

Is is a good thing for the foci to be on the same coronal plane?

What is a sharply demarcated artifact?

I am not sure if this finding is something with which to be concerned or not. The doctor looked concerned, but he is my sleep specialist, not neurologist. He transferred to another clinic and suggested I see a neurologist who is a sleep specialist because he has an MS concern about me.

Thanks for your time and help.

MRI artifacts are usually where the scanner was acting up and created a false reading. Since they are all in a line, (and MS lesions rarely are), that is an indication that they're not lesions, but just a problem with the scanner. But you may want to check with your doctor, just to be sure.
