    VA Caregiver program

    http://www.caregiver.va.gov/

If you are the Family Caregiver of a Veteran who was injured post-9/11, you may be eligible for additional services through VA, including a stipend, comprehensive training and medical coverage through VA if you are not already covered by a plan.
Might be worth checking into. I'm not sure if this is limited to spouces of only combat-wounded Vets or if it would include more, assuming you were active duty in 2001.

Hopefully this program will be extended to us older Vets who have Caregivers. Many have had family Caregivers for decades, normally a spouse, who was unable to work, due to the duties of caregiving, and thus were not able to pay into the SS system. Children of older Vets who are Caregivers, go without medical services, unless they have a job outside of the home, and then, have to rely on another family member, or pay someone else, to care for the Veteran.
    MS, it's a brain thang!
