    Creepy looking skin

Is it the disease itself or the meds ya think? The last couple of years the skin on my hands has gotten alot thinner and more lined, maybe wrinkled is the right word. My arms too.

When I told my neuro about bumping my hands just even alittle and getting blood drawn to the top, his answer was that as we get older our skin gets thinner, so try not to bump your hands!

Well, daaa---I know our skin gets thinner- but I'm not in my 70's or 80's, I just turned 58. I think its the disease, because my hands got that blood pooling afew years before I was dx, but now I know I had it since '94.

Am I alone here, or do any of you have this happen too? Just wondering-- In Sept. I am starting to see a different neuro, one that is an MS specialist. Boy, do I ever have a list of ? for him!! Can"t wait!!!!

For me, I know it's aging.

I'm starting to get fine little lines like that. No one sees them except me. I'm in my later 40's and i recall seeing my step-mom, who is in her late 50's recently. Her skin seemed that way too. It seemed like over night...

IF it's a med, please shout out the news. I don't want to age, ha ha

      From a nurse

      Maybe this can help...

      1. If you smoke your skin can lose the elasticity faster and definately look thinner.
      2. If you are or were a sun worshipper your skin can show aging signs much earlier.
      3. If you take certain medications such as steroids or blood thinners (including aspirin) they can wreak havoc on your skin with long term use. This can surely cause those awful skin tears and bruising seems to happen if you just think about bumping it. It also seems to be really tough on the arms and hands.
      4. If you are caucasian your skin unfortunately can "age" quicker than other races.
      Hope this helps!

and depressing for this aging white woman who used to sunbathe and smoke.

Kathy, If you are 58 and are just now noticing your skin aging you are in good shape.

Ihave noticed the same thing. I think it is aging, but I feel like the aging process has sped up. Daghters and I were laughing the other day, when I was 50, I looked 40. Now I am 60 and look every bit of it. Plus I feel like I am 80. If you do find it is from meds, please let us all know.

I"ve noticed the same thing. I'm 53. I've wondered if it's caused by dryness which I think maybe be exacerbated by meds. Did that make sense. My skin is usually naturally dry in the winter but this year it's not much better now that's it summer. It ahs been a dry year though so...

                chicken skin

                Dear Kathy,
Me and my step-mother, who doesn't have M.S. laugh about our chicken skin! We are both big into moisturizer, but it only goes so far. Drink green tea and lots of water to stay hydrated. At least the humidity that everyone hates so much helps plump us up a little.

Of course, as I always say nerves are EVERYWHERE so it's not like it can't be an M.S. thing. Anything can happen with this disease. Don't ya love it?
