BG12 Monday?

Just read this in my Facebook feed from a well-known MS neurologist...

"News: BiG news coming for MS sooner than you expect ... the day before march 12!"

Can you tell us who the well known neurologist is and where the news came from so we can check this out for ourselves? Its not fair to tease us!

If this is true (that this drug will be available this month), this is good news to many MSer's. I hope that this drug lives up to its 'hype'. As you know this has been in the pipeline and the sight lines for a long time.

A coworker of mine (who has MS) mentioned her MS specialist said it was coming out March 28th.

We'll see.

I hope so, and if so, I hope my neuro lets me get on it BEFORE waiting the year to two years after it's been out. I don't want to stop Tysabri and go on something less effective (Gilenya) while I wait for her to get on board with this. My veins simply cannot stand up to the monthly infusions anymore, and it's agonizing. I want to leave my elbow veins "open" (without much use) because that is where they do my IV for MRI's, and if I were to go into the hospital for any reason, most likely, they would have to IV me there, the IV in my hand would not likely hold up for very long.

Well Mable it sounds like the well known MS neurologist gave out some bad information! Would you like to break loose with who it was and what he said? Everything I read said the end of March.

Yeah, I did a quick search, and all I found was that March 28th was the date the FDA gave as the outside deadline of when it was going to decide whether to approve the drug or not - this was in response to Teva Pharmaceutical's (the maker of Copaxone) petition citing concern for side effects (at above the probable approval dosage). Essentially, it appears Teva did this action to protect their bottom line - if BG-12 comes out, people will leave Copaxone, and Teva will lose money.

My neuro told me March 28th in December, I was just hopng for it to come out sooner. I'm on Tysabri, love Tysabri but she wants to take me off of it because I recently went from JCV- to JCV+

Just saw my neuro yesterday, he took me off Copaxone and told me the approval date is March 28. Very excited about this new med! Hoping too it lives up to its hype.

My neuro confirmed the same thing--they expect approval, and the current date set for that is March 28. Even so, it will probably take a couple of months before it is widely available, as they have to manufacture on a large scale, etc.
