    Chocolate Bread Pudding

    Ingredients
    4 cups 1-inch French bread cubes, crusts removed
    1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans
    1-1/2 cups milk
    2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
    3 eggs
    1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    Whipped cream

    Directions
    1 Place bread cubes and nuts in buttered 1-1/2-quart casserole.
    2 Heat milk and chocolate in small saucepan until chocolate is melted.
    3 Beat with hand mixer until chocolate is dissolved.
    4 Beat egg and sugar until well blended.
    5 Stir in chocolate mixture and vanilla.
    6 Pour over bread and nuts.
    7 Let stand, covered, at room temperature 30 minutes.
    8 Bake at 325 degrees, uncovered, 30 to 35 minutes, or until knife inserted near center comes out clean.
    9 Cool at least 1 hour on wire rack.
    10 Serve topped with whipped cream.

    MAKES 6 to 8 servings
