Ingredients
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons all-propose flour
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
5 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
4 Tablespoons butter, chilled
Directions
1 Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2 In a small bowel, combine sugar, flour, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
3 Add spice mixture to apples and toss.
4 Spoon apples into unbaked pie shell.
5 Sprinkle with lemon juice and set aside.
6 To prepare crumb topping, combine flour, sugar, and butter.
7 Using a pastry blender, mix until crumbly.
8 Sprinkle on top of apples in unbaked pie shell.
9 Bake 1 hour, or until topping is golden.
10 Remove pan to wire rack to cool.
11 Server with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
