    Bedwetting

I started taking neurotin 7 days ago and well, 3 out of those 7 days I have to admit I wet the bed.

We are not talking where you are dreaming your in the bathroom, but flat out not being aware until waking up in the morning and realizing what I have done.

I talked to my neuro and she stated that this is not a possible problem with the new meds. She gave me the option of trying Lyrica... but I just don't want to keep playing with my meds.

    Anyone else experience this problem?

OK, I'll put my hand up to this problem.

It's best to speak to an incontinency counsellor type person to see what help there is.

In the UK, for neuropathic pain, we can use Amitriptyline. I'm not sure if it has the same name in the States. But, I read some details of this drug and noticed it can be prescribed to youngsters, who have a problem with........bedwetting!

You do need to be careful with MS related incontinency issues. You could be retaining urine, which could be condoning this problem.

Personally, I would get a Urology check-up to see what's working and what's not working properly.

    Hope this helps.

In PT it was brought up one way to help strenghten the bladder was to do what they called plates.

Two different ways of doing them. 1. get into a position of doing a push up with your arms out strech. 2. lean on your forearms in the same position. Hold for as long as you can.

Try to do several times throughout the day. I try to do 2 of them three times a day.

It has helped me sleep better, only have to get up once in the middle of the night.

        bed wetting

I went through bed wetting about 7 years ago. I was about 37 years old at the time and had not been dx'ed. I was really embarrassed, i use to wake up in the middle of the night and find that I had wetted the bed. I would get up and get a towel and hope the bed was dry before my wife would get up. I actually had this happen several times through out my adult life. I would have periods where it would happen but hasn't happened for a few years now. I could never figure out what was wrong causing me to pee to bed. Like I said it did pass. I feel for anyone who goes through this very embarrassing issue.

            Ain't MS FUN?

I am told I also have a neurogenic bladder.

I am having the opposite problem. Back in mid Aug I had sleepless night, till the dam broke, so to speak, about 5am.

Went to urologist, PVR over 300 and instantly taught to self-cath on the spot and sent home with supplies.

              Tracelyn -

I would also encourage you to see a urologist or urogynecologist.

You should not have to suffer through the bedwetting. The meds could be a coincidence, or maybe for you they have a side effect that has not been widely reported by other patients.

It could be any number of things and it is best to be checked out by a specialist.

Good luck and keep us posted.

My problem is when I get up in am I move so slow anyway, that eventhough I wear a thick pad, by the time I get to the bathroom my bladder has pretty much emptied!! I have to just step into the shower and clean up. I don't even realize it. I just notice my pj's are cold and wet!

I know it is just a matter of time until I don't make it out of the bed. I put a couple of heavy towels under me at night, because I have the same issues with my bowels!!! Right now it seems that my bladder thinks it should just empty as soon as I stand up! Grrrr!! Ko wonder they call this disease a MonSter!!

                  Sissy.............

I have a neurogenic bladder and in my case post void retention and have to self cath now.

Even so, I also get a very strong urge to empty my bladder when getting up after sitting. I was told that was due to bladder spasms. When that happens I better head fast or leak. I know it sounds weird but hat is the way MS just is.

I know this is stupid to admit,Gomer ( I love the "Sir Falls a Lot"..LOL can I be Lady Falls a Lot??...LOL) but I digress, as a retired peds. nurse I can see self caths in a male! BUT I am not built to do that!! A little to much fluff in the front area,Hmmm?? not to mention I am not that flexable!

Is it a straight in and out cath?

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I am not wetting the bed as often as I was, but it is still happening.

I am thinking seriously about seeing a gyno-urologist once I get my new insurance.

If I would just wake up when my bladder was full, I would be happy. Heck, even wake up after the first few drops of urine was released... but nope.. I am Tracey and I am a 43 year old bed-wetter

Glad it is not as often now, but that still stinks.

I definitely think the urogynecologist is a good bet.

Are you able to use flannel-backed rubber sheets ?

When I tried one of the meds to help

The side effect is a dry mouth. Very unpleasant. Dry mouth can do bad things to your teeth. That's why I am sipping water all day long. At night I keep a bottle of water by my bed side and take a small sip and swish it around my mouth to wet things down if I wake up with a dry mouth.

                              last night

This happened to me just last night!

I woke up after about three hours, was soaked and

                              had a FULL bladder

I didn't drink an unusual amount of beverages and this

                              has never happened before

Although I have had problems with bowel incontinence

Is there any connection? does anyone know?
