    Reversible Colostomy?????

Has anyone on here ever have one? If you have please share if it was a good thing and helped. I know this is a touchy subject but we all learn from one another. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Diamond57-

Just wanted to say hello! Unfortunately, I cannot comment or help regarding this procedure though. I am sorry if you have to do this.

How is the MS medicine working for you?

      Thanks!

      Hi Nikki

Sorry for all you've been through. I'm doing more reading than writing. I'm meeting with many specialists and not sure yet. I just don't want to say too much because it's so personal. I'm miserable but the Rebif is doing well on the 22mcgs. I read you switched. I love reading your posts. You sound like such a kind person. Someone I'd like to hang out with.

You are in my thoughts to have the strength and determination with this disease. It's a tricky-one.........that's for sure. Keep up the courage and I'll do the same.

        Reversing??

Hi there - I'm glad I stopped by tonight so I can respond to your question. Unfortunately I do have experience, but it did have a happy outcome. Here's the short version.

When I was diagnosed 3 years ago the MS specialist prescribed 3 days of solumedrol every month. After the 3rd treatment the 1st month I began having severe abdominal pain. Went to ER and was told I had diverticulitis that had perforated my bowel. I was admitted for 10 days and two surgeons debated if I should have surgery or IV antibiotics. Opted for the antibiotics and went home feeling better.

The following month I went for my SM treatments. 3 days after the third infusion I experienced terrible pain and fever. Went to ER and sent to emergency surgery for a colostomy. I was devastated, but coped with the help of God, my incredible husband, family and friends.

Nine months later the colostomy was reversed and the surgery went very well with moderate recuperation.

Here's the bad news - about 4 months later I developed a lesion in my abdominal scar which later started "ejecting" the metal surgical screws (28 of them). I had MRSA and my pig mesh (least likely to rject) had rejected.

The good news, I was able to find a world-renown hernia specialist in Daytona, FL (2 hr away) who was able to remove the mesh and the remainder of the tacks. This fixed my problem and I've done relatively well with my tummy since then, although I do have to watch my diet and now have a small hernia which will have to be repaired someday.

Despite all of this drama, I do NOT resent the reversal. I would do it again if the situation arose. It's nice to have the plumbing work properly again.

Feel free to ask any other questions you may have

        Love & blessings - Sue

          Hi diamond

I don't have any personal experience, but my cousin had this done. He had a colostomy for over 6 months & then it was reversed. He's doing just fine. It's been about 15 years since now.
