Does this sound like a mild case of ON

    Hi,

Been almost 2 years in limbo. Seeing an MS specialist...have lesions in brain but "not too concerned about them"

Also seeing a Rheumy, positive ANA

On October 26th my right eye had a foggy/greyish blurry film on it. My colour was also off...blacks looked grey...reds not as potent.

My right eye was also more dilated compared to left.

The greyish film lasted a day...but the colour issue lasted about a week.

I've had pain in the same eye a few times before, pain lasted 3-4 days but not vision loss or issues.

Can you have ON without double vision or loss of vision?

Optometrist has referred my to a neuro opthomolagist appoint in Aug

My Rheumy also referred me to another opthomolagist she doesn't want me to wait till Aug.

Any ideas as to what this might be??

    Thanks,
    Minnie76

    Hi minnie76:

1.On October 26th my right eye had a foggy/greyish blurry film on it. My colour was also off...blacks looked grey...reds not as potent.

The reds are pretty consistent with ON. Did you compare the two eyes to see if one was red and one was pink or orange?

    2. My right eye was also more dilated compared to left.

Were you in bright light when you checked that? Usually the affected eye will only dilate in bright light.

    3. The greyish film lasted a day...but the colour issue lasted about a week.

OK. This is something you need to discuss with your ophthalmologist.

    4. I've had pain in the same eye a few times before, pain lasted 3-4 days but not vision loss or issues.

OK. This can happen, but your recovered very quickly!

    5. Can you have ON without double vision or loss of vision?

    Yes you can. http://www.nationalmssociety.org/abo...tis/index.aspx

    6. Optometrist has referred my to a neuro opthomolagist appoint in Aug

This is good, but it is forever away!

    7. My Rheumy also referred me to another opthomolagist she doesn't want me to wait till Aug.

    Great!!

    8. Any ideas as to what this might be??

It could be a mild case of ON, however, I can't see the back of your eye, so I don't know for sure. Your doc will have to check your reflexes, perhaps do a VEP, we will see what will happen. You can let us know after your appointment, OK?

I assume you mean it was as though you were looking through a foggy, film where colors were less saturated? Very consistent with ON. Same for the reds, although I've never had the red issue, although I have had it with other colors. You can absolutely have ON without full loss of vision, or without double vision. Heck, you can even have it without pain--I've had it more than once, and never a lick of discomfort. The dilation issue is also very concerning. I did that once an only for a day, but it was very much an ON thing for me.

If you mean your eye literally had a film on it that you could see in a mirror, that is a totally different thing that a medical doctor needs to see. Really, all of this no matter what you mean calls for a doctor. An optometrist is not a medical doctor, so I agree with seeing an ophthalmologist right away. August for a neuro-ophth is ridiculous. Hopefully you can see an ophthalmologist much, much sooner.

None of this is to say that it *is* ON, of course, but it definitely warrants looking in to.

        Thanks for the replies guys!

So new apt with neuro opthamologist is Feb 6th as he's pretty much off for Dec.

I've learned my lesson, if this happens again I will go to ER or Doc right away.

Since it didn't last very long I didn't want to jump to any conclusions since I've read that ON lasts for weeks.

When looking at my eye, the only thing one can see different is that it was more dilated then the left. My eye was foggy but you couldn't see it by looking at it. I kept on blinking thinking that my contacts where dirty. But it was just haizy.
At night traffic lights had a much bigger halo..if that makes any sense.

        p.s. getting major headaches though

        Thanks,
        Minnie
