CHANGES AT MSWORLD - MSWORLD'S CLOSURE

We began with a mission and purpose to help others living with MS.

We were excited to get going!

And hit a few bumps along the way…

However, in all seriousness, we remain grateful for our amazing volunteers, members & all who have made MSWorld a valuable resource for all!

July 10, 2024, we celebrated the goodness of these past 28 years. With a heavy heart, we will be ending our services.

We need a financial miracle to keep going forward.

We thank all for your support.

MSWorld's website will close on October 16, 2024.

“I personally want to wish all of you the guidance to find this type of support, as so many do here. Also, my prayers and love extends beyond my understanding. It has been a pleasure to steward this journey.”

God Bless you, Kathleen

    Gabapentin

Hi I was just wondering about dosage and side effects and long term use ?
Ive been having back issues and pain for quite a few months now and have been on Gabapentin for almost two months
1200 mg per day. It seems to be helping but I don’t know much about it. Was just wondering if others had any experiences on it ? Or advice ?

I've been taking it since I was diagnosed more than 20 years ago. For me, it doesn't help with pain, but does with neuropathic itching. That was one of my first symptoms.
It's supposed to be taken every 8 hours, but now I only take it when I have itching. I take pregabalin for nerve pain. Sometimes it helps. My neuro said nerve pain is difficult to treat.

The most common side effects are dizziness and drowsiness. The maximum dose is 3600 mg day. If you take an antacid that contains aluminum or magnesium, wait at least 2 hours before or after taking gabapentin. Examples of these antacids are Maalox and Mylanta. Combining these medications can lower the levels of gabapentin in the body, which makes it less effective.

    Best of luck with it.

      Thank you Kimba
I am both dizzy and drowsy more than I was before but the nerve pain is so much that I take it faithfully
Your information is very helpful. All it does is dull it a wee bit , but that’s better than nothing. The pain I’ve been in is affecting my quality of life. My Nero surgeon recommended freezing the nerve in two places along my spine. I’ve developed scoliosis as well from being lop sided for so many years.

I just found your old post after doing a keyword search. Nerve pain, specifically in my legs, is my largest complaint. At one point I tried Lyrica but felt depressed and quit immediately. No thanks. I currently take 600 mg per day Gabapentin and can increase but the side effects are too extreme for a father that shuttles kids around town. It helps but sadly the pain is constantly 8 out of ten. I get deep tissue massages often and take epsom salt baths nightly (highly recommend) that do help. I live in CA and at night take a 1:1 ratio tincture of CBD/THC. This alleviates pain and affords me a good night sleep but not a daytime solution.

I was on 1200 mg per day for three month and then the pain started getting better so I started to wean back to 400 mg per day , then the pain came back and I’m trying 800 mg per day and see how it goes. My GP told me it sometimes takes up to three months to take effect. I can’t tolerate the THC so I’m just trying to function the best I can on the stuff and also work and try to play. But it does make me tired. I couldn’t imagine 3600 mg per day. I’m just a little guy too 137 lbs.
Hard to function in pain and also on the meds but the pain was just too much.
Good luck maybe soon there will be something better.
