    jerks and twitches

does any one have any insight whether random jerks and twitches are an ms thing?
first off i need to start off by saying that about 4 years ago i started having minor twitches.
recently within the last 2 months they have appeared again this time worse . I have had them off and on through out the years but its constant now it seems like. I will wake up at night because my head jerks or jaw jerks. During the day i get it also and the last few months its coming throughout the day quite a bit.
I cant explain it very well but i have been noticing alot lately that i will go to grasp an object and my arm will jerk away from it or if i do grip onto an object i will drop it.

My feet are also affected and tongue. It doesnt hold back on any body part it seems like but it only affects 1 spot at a time but it is very frequent like averaging alot throughout the day.

My legs ache now because of the twitches and jerks. At times i can feel like a shock before the jerk occurs. The twitches well let me just say that i feel like i have muscles moving in a wave like pattern.
i can at times daze out into space but thats another issue. I contacted my nuerologist and he has scheduled a emergency appointment to see me this tuesday because hes concerned and says he cant diagnose it over the phone so here i go again 2 hours away to my doc. But anyways to sum it all up 1 second i will see my foot jerk and the next i can be walking and my leg will jerk.

My spasticity is also flaring up too and that sure doesnt help right now.Im so tired right now with all the achiness and jerks its not funny.

Anyways thank you guys for reading this and im in hopes to hear responses im very confused , hurting, concerned that my ms is getting worse.
Any thoughts will be appreciated thank you in advance for the replies . Hope all is well with all of you thank you and GOD BLESS

Yes they are and Google "myoclonic jerks multiple sclerosis" to learn more about them.

Taking a Magnesium supplement a couple times a day should calm them down and I'd also suggest adding Calcium and Potassium if you do not get enough of those vitamins in your diet.

Because these jerks/twitches can be exacerbated while lying flat in bed, elevating your upper body may provide some relief.

A product I use occasionally, called "Natural Calm" is a powdered drink mix of Magnesium/Calcium that relaxes your nerves and muscles. I drink a glass or add it to tea about a hour before bed and sleep like a rock.

I'm sure your neuro will prescribe you a drug but you may want to explore these options as well.

        update on jerks and twitches

so i went to my nuero yesterday and i found out that the jerks and twitches i have been having are ms related. I just remember about 6 years ago having them and no doctor at that point could figure out why i was having them . I had several blood test done for electrolytes and other stuff . So i pushed aside with the title of being depressed.

The twitches and jerks have come and gone in the years and been mild but now they have gotten worse thats what led me to talk to my doctor about them.

In the meantime i also had a few other questions answered that the other nueros said was depression and i was being a hypochondriac and those things were head tremors and stuttering which comes and goes.

Yesterday while waiting in the waiting room yesterday i saw this guy who was being admitted and he was in a motorized chair well the point im trying to make is he was stuttering worse then what i do. His seems to be more constant and my stuttering comes and goes . So at least i have those 2 other questions answered at the same time.

So it was a good day to finally get some answers on this stuff i have been experiencing.

My doctor just told me to up the dosage of my tizanidine which is my muscle relaxer and if that dont work he is going to change medicines on that.

I will talk to you guys later and have a good day.

Daraslyte: Do you have MS? If so, why are you only on Zanaflex for muscle spasm? You really need an MS neurologist to treat you. Baclofen is the drug of choice for MS patients and that is because it is a skeletal muscle relaxant developed specifically for MS patients and paralyzed patients. The Zanaflex is going to be a little lite for you when dealing with these muscle spasms and twitches.

          Good luck

            jerks and twitches continued

hi 22 cyclist yes i do have ms and my nuero did say that the twitches i have are ms related and his nurse asked me if i am on baclofen . But she didnt look my med list up at the time to see what i was on for them.

When i saw my nuero he said that if this doesnt work he is going to put me on baclofen. This nuero has dealt with ms for over 26 years now so i trust his treatment but i know what your saying also, but me and my nuero have a good trusting relationship.

The reason i say that is because i have been to 3 other nueros before this one and the last 1 that i saw said that what i had with the jerks and twitches and head tremors was not ms related and i also had those 2 questions answered yesterday from him. I also stutter from time to time and the last nuero said it wasnt ms .

Sorry but someone just dont wake up 1 morning like i did with head tremors and stuttering. So i feel like this nuero now has more experience with it and i looked up his background and he is associated with the ms society he is one doctor that gives the society info about ms patients.

1 question does baclofen work? Everytime i twitch and jerk alot it makes me ache and hurt. I really appreciate your response i am learning more about things with all of you as i go along so thank you.

Im still in kinda like a denial stage i think because i cant believe after years of in and out of different kinds of doctors and being called depressed and hypochondriac its actually diagnosed. The wierd thing is everytime i see my nuero now i get answers and he finds the signs himself so its at least being treated now. Hope you are feeling well.

I think the first 3 nueros wasnt familiar with ms well at all like you said about finding a nuero that is ms specialist and finally i did.

So thank you again for your response . Hope all is well with you
