    Caffeine and fatigue

Hello all, I want start by saying I’ve been having some debilitating fatigue that lasts for about 2 days at a time. Sometimes towards the end of the work week. I do drink about a pot of coffee a day and take provigil 200mg daily. I was wondering is anyone has cut their caffeine intake and seen an improvement in 1 their fatigue but 2 their sleep? Seems possible but haven’t found anyone with a similar story in the archives.

I cut my caffeine back so that I have 2 cups in the morning and that is it most days. Once in a while, I may have iced tea at lunch. If I have more, it sometimes affects my sleep. Even if it doesn't affect my ability to fall asleep, I seem more restless in my sleep. I did feel better after I did cut back.

How much caffeine were you drinking before cutting back? And did you notice a difference right away or did it take time to make a change?

I used to drink 3-4 teas in the morning, then a soda at lunch and usually 2 iced teas or hot tea in the afternoon. The first cut was the afternoon, then I capped the morning at 2 cups of tea, then finally, cut the lunch time caffeine. If I remember right, I did it at 2 week intervals and it was a gradual feeling better.

I used to do 4 pots a day. Quitting didn't make a difference in my fatigue or sleep, but it did stop the heart palpitations!

I cut out coffee altogether a number of years ago. The diuretics in caffeine just make me run to the bathroom too frequently and life is easier for me without coffee.

I don't avoid caffeine completely. I likely have some in tea occasionally, and in dark (low sugar) chocolate sometimes. But, I don't consume caffeine to help with fatigue.

I’ve cut coffee out of my diet altogether simply because it wasn’t doing anything for my (pretty severe) fatigue. I have found the only thing that helps me is avoiding anything with added sugar. On days when I don’t adhere to this I regret it deeply. Still, it’s rough going on ‘good days’. I here ya NoraS about the heart palpitations though.
