    Help

Hi! I wrote about my situation in the thread "Can I rule out MS?" and I got great response

But now I wonder if someone can help me with another question. I'll meet a new neurologist in 4 weeks. I wonder if you know if there is a respected and knowledgeable neurologist somewhere in the world, maybe the US I guess, that knows about the difficulties with diagnosing MS in some cases. Someone who can explain why 3 tesla is better, why lesions not always are easy to find on mri, why LP may be needed etc.

I just need as much knowledge as possible before I see the neurologist, so I just not get kicked out again without any help when he find out that my earlier MRI:s (1,5t) were fine. I have already sent him my history to read, so I don't forget anything.

Is there maybe any publications or maybe a neurologist who is interested and can speak/write to and give his knowledge to neurologists here?

    Hi mistelaj

A good reference for the diagnosing of MS is explained on the website of the National MS Society.

    This from the NMSS:

The Revised McDonald Criteria, published In 2010 by the International Panel on the Diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, include specific guidelines for using MRI, visual evoked potentials (VEP) and cerebrospinal fluid analysis to speed the diagnostic process.

Are there any Multiple Sclerosis Societies in Sweden? They might have a list of MS Specialists for you there in Sweden.

With the high incidence of MS in Sweden, I would think that the neurologists there would be well informed about the diagnosis of MS?

Hopefully your next appointment with the new neurologist goes well.

Thank you!! We have a neuro society and MS is part of it, but not a society only for ms. My doctor has tried to refer me to the MS specialists on the hospital here in my town, but they just send the referral back because my MRI:s (1,5 tesla and no LP) are clear and the don't let me visit them. Now I'll meet a neurologist on a small clinic...

Don't lose hope yet. This new neuro may actually listen to your concerns, and with your history, may refer you for more tests.

Also, since this has been going on for 7 years, the clinical exam might/should reveal subtle neurological abnormalities that the neuro just can't ignore, and he will have to pursue the cause of these.

        Wishing you the best!

Thank you KoKo Yeah, if I have MS or not...no idea. But something neurological is absolutely going on in me... The cogwheel rigidity is hard to ignore too. I wrote down my history and sent it to the neurologist to read before I visit him, so I don't have to remember everything.

Thanks you for the kind words! Take care you too.

Sending the neurologist your history to read ahead of time was an excellent idea.

I can remember back to my first appointment, I took a two page summary of all the various symptoms that I had been experiencing over the past year.

I gave it to the nurse when I got there, and she gave it to the neurologist to read before he came into the room to see me.

He was very appreciative that I did that, and told me that it was very helpful to him.

Hopefully your neurologist feels the same!
