    Testing for dizziness

You are probably all sick of hearing about my dizziness. Sorry.

My question is this: What tests should be run to eliminate MS from the equation? I'm pretty sure, after all this time, that my brand of dizziness is caused by my MS. But, I could be wrong. So what should I have the doctors look for... other possible reasons for this daily, never-ending wooziness that is ruining my life?

What are some of the other possibilities? And what can be done for it? As of now I haven't found anything that helps. Maybe a little Xanax once in awhile. My head feels so heavy and full, like it's swimming. Starting to feel like I could fall over sometimes. So very tired!!

    Thanks guys.

I wish someone had offered you answers. I sure haven't any to offer either, although maybe I sometimes share similar dizziness symptoms, and have no idea why. My neurologist's take on it was that "It's probably related to MS, a lesion perhaps...". His suggested solution: "take tai chi as it might help your balance." Perhaps it will help you.....

      Terrible Dizziness

I have been dizzy all day every day for over 4 years. It was my first symptom and I initially went to an ear, nose and throat specialist. He did the head movement thing that was supposed to fix it if it was an inner ear thing; it didn't work.

Being dizzy for me is like trying to walk on a moving boat. I lose my balance if I look up or left or right so I have been using my cane for a couple of years. When I make the bed or take my shower I am more dizzy than normal until it calms down.

Both of my MS specialists told me there was nothing I could do about it but I am desperate to find something to help. So if there are any tests like you asked about, I too, want an answer so much!
I'm sorry you have the same problem and I can definitely relate.

The only possibility I know of are middle ear problems. My mother has suffered dizziness throughout her life and sought out an ear specialist in town that has had some success in treating dizziness. He really helped her without subjecting her to some tortuous balance therapy.

The caveat is that, unless you live in Los Angeles, it would be difficult to travel to see him. Flying makes me dizzy and I don't even have it all the time. If you can go there, let me know and I will find out his name for you.

It could very well be just the MS. I certainly have plenty of it myself. But you are wise to consider other possibilities. My doctor told me "when you have a diagnosis like MS, doctors tend to lump all the symptoms together and attribute it all to MS." MS affects everyone differently. You might be one of the unfortunate ones who got the dizziness. It is so debilitating. I don't blame you for looking any possibilities all over this planet to get relief.

Thanks for the offer but I'll never get to California. I'll check into an ENT here. I totally agree about doctors lumping everything into the MS category. I've had that happen so many times. Some doctors just don't want to try to figure things out. "Let's just call it MS and forget it". Hope you get yourself steady. I absolutely hate this dizziness. I took a Neurontin last night and I'll be dizzy all day today from that. But at least I can explain today's dizziness.

If you could get to St. Louis they probably have someone good. The best doctors hang out near medical schools.

I hope you can find the right one.

              Maybe this is an option?

I haven't been diagnosed yet and am in the middle of limbo. However, I battle lots of dizziness. My ENT has scheduled a VNG for later this month which he said would tell me if my dizziness/vertigo is central, peripheral, etc.

It won't cure dizziness you are suffering from but it may help determine where the dizziness is coming from. If it's not central I would think that would mean it isn't MS related!

Good of luck and I hope you find something to help!

Thanks. This sounds like a good suggestion.

                  VNG Test

                  Hmmmmm,

Please let us know how the VNG test went! I might try it if it gives a definite answer.

                  Thank you!

I'm pretty certain I've come down with a dizzy spell just reading your post.

Hiya Marti It's so great to see a familiar name from years ago.

I hope you find a treatment for your brand very soon. You're so tough to have dealt with it this long

Marti, so sorry I took so long to reply. I've been feeling like crap lately so came the mentally low mood. I didn't want to bring you down when I first read your message lol

I'm doing good Marti. Other than my health issues, my life is great. I remarried in 2012 (long story). No kids yet but we have been trying. About to go get some help with that soon after I finish this round of testing. Since you last heard from me, I got my Cosmetology license. Then I became a CNA in a hospital and now I'm back working as a receptionist at a production company. I could not handle the other occupations physically. Oh and we bought our first house several months ago! We've been having so much fun DIYing things and gardening. I've been doing my first ever bit of gardening in our yard. It's such an incredible thing to experience. I love gardening so much. It's so peaceful.

                          How are you doing Marti??
