    Neurologist burnout!

I went for my yearly scheduled neurology appointment and mentioned I was having vision issues. The eye chart is near the waiting room. I started reading the chart out loud when I noticed my neurologist was engaged in a conversation with the receptionist. A kindly m.s patient in the waiting room piped up and said " how do you know if she even got those right?" Boy was he angry, getting called on that! Needless to say the rest of the appointment was very strained. I think they get overwhelmed and maybe even a little bored with hearing the same old complaints. As bored as they are they would not want someone they care about treated that way. Time for a vacation or change of career . I can't take a break from my disease ! Nothing worse than feeling your not being heard by your Dr.

    Hello Picture me,

It is best to see an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist for any vision concerns. The eyes are their specialty.

Neurologist are not a good source for vision problems.

Neurologists are the first line of defense when you are having any issue that could be MS related, eye specialists or not. If that wasn't the case then why have a chart to begin with?

Picture me, I would see how your next appointment goes and if you still feel ignored maybe looking for a new neuro is in order. I switched neuros recently because my husband thought that my original neuro was not on top of new treatments enough. I disagreed but you know who won that fight.

I'm sorry Picture me. It's not right, and downright disturbing. I had to go to at least 5 different neuros and then go out of town to Cleveland Clinic just to get somebody who would take MS as a possibility seriously.

I know they work hard, but so do a lot of us.

Optic Neuritis can be caused by MS and a Neurologist can prescribe IVSM if the patient and Dr. feel it necessary or warranted.

Vision problems, in a general sense, are not necessarily MS related and an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist are best at determining what may be the underlying cause of changes to vision. Most will take into consideration a patients diagnosis of MS.

Many Neurologists will refer patients to a Neuro- Ophthalmologist if there is a concern about vision.
