    Lost Doctor after 10 years

I went from Doc to Doc over 10 years ago. Finally I found a Doc that did not right off DX me but did all the testing. My LP showed 1 band but MRI nothing...evoke showed slowness, muscle test showed slowness etc. Then about 6 months later since I was having mobility problems he did another MRI, then it showed lesions and he gave me a DX of MS. This Doctor has followed me for 10 years and he closed his practice. I have almost all my records. I have another Doc, and he questioned my DX. He said he does not "know me" he has not observed me clincially....He said having one band is questionable...which I knew but my old Doc build my DX around all the testing not just the LP. Anyone else had to switch Docs and get something like this? Thank you

    I've switched a few times.

First neuro was great...but she became very ill and had to retire. I was referred by her to neuro number 2 who never ordered any testing....nice person, but not very knowledgeable about MS, her specialty was Parkinsons...but I continued there for a quite a few years because I was stable.

When things started getting "dicey" as far as symptoms, waited 6 months for an appt. to see Neuro #3, MS specialist. I actually only saw him the first visit and then saw the PA each time after that. He resigned and moved into research for a large pharmaceutical, and his replacement was recently out of med school (so how could he be an MS specialist ) Seriously though, another member of the forum tried out the new neuro at this practice and wasn't pleased. So I decided to forego the long drive to the MS center and just look for a local neuro.

I switched to current neuro, I was referred by my physiatrists (and they deal with many different neuros in town.)

He was the first neuro that had had me redo the testing, MRIs, evoked potentionals, but not LP, and was very proactive in having some things tested that no one had ever mentioned (Balance Center and Sleep Study.) Very happy with him, and glad he reordered the testing.

Did your original neuro refer you to the neuro who's questioning your diagnosis?

If you don't feel comfortable with your new doctor, quickly find another one.
      Your health is at stake.

Bascially when he closed his practice he gave a list of all Neuros in the area. No one specific. This Doctor stated my evoke was old etc etc but did not offer to redo....It is so hard because I questioned the DX in the beginning but he explained how clinical obervations along with lp and mri go together. My lp showed only one band.....I appreciate your response. I have been fighting for my spouse retired military for the past 3 years finally I think got him straight so I am not in the mood for this one.

I've been through several neuros and MS specialist, including before my dx, a job relocation, return home, and eventually getting a definate MS dx.

After my dx, I was with the same MS neuro for aprox 7yrs. Being from the Gulf Coast, after Katrina I found it necessary to relocate again. I consulted a General neuro who I got a quicker appointment with, only wanting a referral to a local MS neuro.

The General neuro reversed my MS dx. Everything out of his mouth sounded all too familiar from my pre dx experience, and I just wasn't up for a repeat of that experience after an established dx for 7yrs, DMDs, etc.

I found a MS neuro at a major MS Center not long after. The new MS neuro reviewed my records, rule out dx'es, MRIs, clinical exam and asked me what the General Neuro thought my dx could possibly be if not MS.

Don't waste time if your instincts tell you the doc is not taking you seriously. You will find a MS doc you like with lots of patients and a little bit of luck.

          Take care
