    Can vertigo get better?

My son is on lamotrigine for vertigo and it is not getting better. Has anyone taken this for vertigo? Would steroids be better?

Lamotrigine is Lamictal and is used as an anti-seizure, and used to treat depression off-label. It is not used to treat dizziness off label or otherwise. This is why it is most likely not helping. For CNS dizziness, Valium is about the only medication that works. Ask your neurologist for a medication that treats the dizziness specifically. If he/she insists it is the Lamictal, ask your PCP.

    Good luck!

      lamotrigine

Thank you so much, that is exactly what I thought. I thought it was strange that one of the side effects is dizziness.

        Lisa,
My son just told me that he isn't getting dizzy anymore, now he feels like he doesn't have enough oxygen and he is going to black out. Have you heard of that in MS??? I don't know if this is from before or started after taking the lamotrigine.
