Looking for good MS doctor in NJ

Hi all! My mom was diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS last year at the age of 71. We've been to 2 neurologists so far, one who was clueless and one at an MS Center who we are not particularly pleased with.

Can anyone recommend a good Dr in NJ? She lives in Forked River (Ocean County) but we will be willing to travel if need be!

Thanks so much for your help!

If you're up to traveling to Camden county, you can look up Dr. Donald Barone in Stratford. He's fantastic. Might be a bit of a hike, but I think he's worth it.

      Hi Amy!

I live in Waretown and have been going to the MS Center for a few years. While I'm not overly pleased I was told that the doctor there was one of the best, if not the best, in the area. Thankfully, I have not had many issues. Please let me know if you find a doctor in the area that your mom absolutely loves. I wish the best to your mom.

I don't use him but I know people that use and like dr Katz at the ms center in freehold. My neurologist in no was not a ms specialist he just left the practice but none in the group specialize in ms. Good luck

          THANK YOU!

Thank you all for your replies! The last time I was looking for an MS dr a year ago for my Mom I did hear of Dr. Barone and there were a few people who recommended him. I will definitely look him up now.

We have been seeing Dr. Katz for a year now and although he is a highly qualified MS doctor, I'm not happy with his bedside manner and right now my mom needs a little more positive, upbeat doctor. I understand he has to be truthful to her but there are better ways to go about it when you are dealing with someone with a debilitiating disease. We always leave there feeling even worse and defeated than when we got there

Either way - thank you all so much!

I just went to my neuro appointment with Dr. Katz yesterday. I can totally understand what you mean about his bedside manner. My DH and I were talking about how, in our opinion, a good doctor should have a sense of humor and be a bit relaxed. Thankfully I am doing well and only see him every six months. Please let me know if you see Dr. Barone and what your opinion is of him. Good luck!

              Another suggestion

Look into Dr. Steven Bromley at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees! Great doc -- very knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and caring. I think you will like his bedside manner. Also has his own practice in Audubon, NJ.
